I'm excited that this month was Bitte Orca, cuz the version I have was signed by a couple of band members and I'd like one that I felt comfortable playing.

I pay for Spotify. I own zero vinyl and about 800 CDs that I never listen to and are all at least 5 years old.
Not holding my breath for a new album from The Cure, but miracles can happen, right?
Beach Slang is a really good cover band.

My pipe dream is Cale does Songs for Drella in full at the Art Institute when I saw Cale at cabaret metro, songs for drella didn't exist yet, because Andy Warhol was still alive (although he had less than a month to live).

I went through a vinyl buying phase but rarely ever listen to them and for me it's more collector/decorative.
I pay for Spotify.
Beach Fossils are a great band.
I am looking forward to Frank, the 1975, The Strokes, and I assume Kendrick.
Maybe we'll finally get that Grimes album this year???

I've significantly cut down on my vinyl purchasing in the past two years. Basically, I'll only buy used records from stores or fairs (bless u, pitchfork fest tent). And the only time I buy new records is directly from the artist at shows. This means that maaybe I'll end up with 4-5 new records a year and another 10-12 used ones on the cheap. I try and focus my used buying on stuff that I know I'll listen to on my table. So basically, this means that I'm only ever browsing in the used 1.) folk 2.) country and 3.) soul sections. I pay for Spotify. I rarely buy physical copies of music anymore, but I did recently buy the new Mikal Cronin and a Japanese pressing of CSNY's 4 Way Street just to support Tone Deaf. I listen to a lot less music these days than I used to. It bums me out. I could listen all day at my old job, and I biked more, which was always good for listening to new stuff. I do still see a fair amount of shows, though also not as much as I used to, but I am hearing some great new local stuff from the SV kids. They are in a couple bands you should check out: AndsFat Night (ol dude is like a baby Beck it's v cute) Doom Flower (Jess from Campdogzz)

I pay for Google Play Music basically because I've had it since it was in beta and before Spotify was available in the US. It was originally just a music locker for people to stream their collections but then it became a full streaming service. I like the UI a lot more than other services.

i honestly had to go look at mookie's 2020 list because i couldnt think of anything with a proper release date yet that i was excited for. kvelertak, insect ark, and sightless pit for sure.
everything else is still kinda speculative at this point (NIN collab, deftones) so im not really holding my breath yet.

I've been using Apple Music for a few years now. I got a cheap three month subscription to Spotify to give it a shot, but so far don't like it as much.
I probably purchase 20-30 records a year. Pretty even mixture of Amazon, local shops, and shows. All the talk of VMP in here finally convinced me to start a subscription. I still own 300-400 CDs as well, but they are all in boxes in a storage area.
Haven't really kept up with 2020 releases but nothing I've heard about so far stands out, except for the possibility of a new Frank Ocean LP.
I haven't been listening to any songs lately as I'm trying to finish a long audio book.

Maybe this doesn't quite belong here but for those of you with large physical collections, how do you store it?

MPH wants me to get rid of them because they're just collecting dust, but I refuse. My small vinyl collection is in my childhood bedroom closet.

Kinda asking because my bf has an entire room on the first floor that is floor to ceiling cds and while we both agree that they shouldn't be tossed or put away entirely I can't help but think there is a better use for that room.

I bought bookshelves from Ikea, and they used to sell shelf inserts that were perfectly sized to stack rows of cds, but they discontinued those ages ago.
Since switching to spotify, I've boxed them all up and they reside in my garage now.

Kallax from Ikea for the vinyl. I have no idea what I would do for cds. You could probably do the same thing and put baskets in the shelves so the cds don't fall all over the place.

Yeah my CDs are all in boxes in the attic. At a certain point you just can't have them in CD towers or bookshelves. Put another way - there is nothing small children love more than pulling cases off of shelves or towers and throwing them on the ground.

Only thing about that is to be sure you get white or some other color they are not likely to discontinue in case you need to buy more at some point. We got the oak effect and now it's only available in the UK. Need to expand and are in a bit of a pickle.

Apparently they no longer make the Kallax with 5 holes (hey fivehole) so there has been some discussion of putting a 4 on top of the 5? I would rather just go for the full wall size one.

I've got mine in two bookcases and we had to fence them off from my daughter when she was younger. Luckily she is a bit older now and knows better than to pull them all out now.

I mean, in light of recent policy changes, I think all it needs it a couple of beanbags and a stereo to be everything you could want.
