the last 17 yrs of radio / pop culture I basically stopped listening to the radio in seventh or eighth grade because I lived in Kansas and all they played was top 40 music and I was getting into Depeche Mode and New Order and The Cure, which the radio stations never played. I remember once thinking "Okay, I will try to work with the system...", so I called the top radio station in the area and requested "Fascination Street". The radio station guy's words, verbatim: "I don't even think that song exists." So from that point forward I was like "FUCK THE RADIO." Plus, I was not willing to listen to a bunch of shit that I hated on the off chance that I might hear part of a song that I liked. Even while driving, if I didn't have a cassette or CD that I wanted to hear (a rare occasion, as I had a CD changer in my car), I would ride in silence. I don't know any of the radio stations here or in Baltimore, where I lived for college, or in New York, where I lived after college. Never listened to any of that shit. Don't know any Sirius/XM stations. Rarely if ever listen to any playlists that I don't put together myself. Maybe it was playing in the background while I was wandering around a store, but I certainly wasn't paying any attention to it.

"We looked at a lot of treatments and some directors were trying to be kind of arty and subtle with it, but Chris Applebaum went completely for the jugular," said Schlesinger.[4] Model Rachel Hunter plays the title role,[16] which she accepted because she was a fan of the band and the song.[12] The group had previously hoped to get Paulina Porizkova (The Cars' frontman Ric Ocasek's wife) for the role.

That reminds me of how I used to love watching Dial MTV for Def Leppard. I didn't get to watch it much, though, because we lived out in the boonies and had no cable.

Soul singer Celeste has been named the BBC's Sound of 2020. Going through the wiki page of their long and short lists, it's like a British Grammy list. And I don't know any of the people they named this year (including the winner) other than Squid. I think the only 2 media lists that have ever "gotten it right" are Pitchfork lists (at least the older ones) and the Pazz & Jop poll when that was a thing (is it still a thing?)

Yungblud is pretty big out of that list, but the only thing he's the Sound Of is a fart.

To get us started.... -Do you still buy music? If so, where? -What is your most anticipated release of 2020? -Which albums have an anniversary year this year that you hope could mean a tour / reissue / celebration? -Post a song you’re listening to this week and a genuine thought about why you like it. 1. The last record I bought was Maps & Atlases' Perch Patchwork on 11/23/19 at Sleeping Village 2. The Killers - Imploding the Mirage 3. Rx Bandits performing Mandala in full. Best way I can describe the album is "underwater salsa" and "board-friendly" 4. Face To Face by Rex Orange County. The album as a whole isn't the greatest but this song stood out to me because... i. I love the string/piano section in the beginning ii. The theme about trust issues with relationships is something I can relate

Been blaring Souvlaki Space Station over my classroom's speakers during passing period. Some of the kids dig it (not many, though). Love how the bass anchors the song.

My wife puts on the Wilco station on pandora whenever it's storming out or something, that usually settles him down since they only play the slower lamer songs. I played him a Rhye album once and he chilled to that too, so I should try that and mix it up a bit for him.

I had been meaning to do this, so I did it now (while eating a delicious Chicken Parm sandwich from Tempesta Market). All was going really well. Starts out with Anyplace is Better than Here by The 'Mats. Other good stuff (Melt-Banana, Dump Him, Mountain Goats, Wire). Then, midway down I notice "Close to Me". Not the original, but the one by The Get Up Kids. wtf - Dexter would NEVER listen to that when the real version already exists. And now I wanna burn the whole thing down.

Dexter's playlist ends with "Sisters are Doin' It for Themselves" So very weird.
Now I want to make a fake playlist based on an antisocial hyperactive Iguana named Mildred.
