I wanted to start a thread where we can maybe, hopefully, have some good discussions about music instead of just posting jpgs in the album thread or only talking about bands that might be on lineups.
To get us started....
-Do you still buy music? If so, where? -What is your most anticipated release of 2020? -Which albums have an anniversary year this year that you hope could mean a tour / reissue / celebration? -Post a song you’re listening to this week and a genuine thought about why you like it.

Sondre has a new album coming out later this year, so I'm very excited for that one. Hopefully he goes on an extended tour. He's based in LA now.
Yes, I still buy music - generally from shows.

I think my wife will kill me if I buy any more band merch, but I can't help myself after 2-3 beers.

My pipe dream is Cale does Songs for Drella in full at the Art Institute in a few weeks to celebrate Warhol. Since, you know, the album is about Warhol.
Pinwheel Records is where I buy most of my stuff nowadays.
This thread is goofy!

So far this year I'm excited that there seems to be a few highly-emo influenced bands starting to pop up. P4k reviewed a couple that I like in the last few weeks, Macseal and Short Fictions. Hopefully that keeps up.
I do not buy albums any longer, I've put in my time. As I mentioned, I bought over 2400 cds before spotify. Then after spotify, I've probably bought less than 10.
As of late, I'm trying to buy a few more shirts than I have in the past, especially for the younger bands that aren't charging more than $20 for a shirt.

yes I still buy vinyl, mostly from local record stores or discogs for something specific. i was looking forward to friday for the new Beach Slang record, but yesterday's single wasn't great. Now it's probably the Cure ... if that happens. hard to believe the Suburbs is 10 years old...

I buy vinyl at about half the shows I go to, if I don't own them all already. CDs if they're local and have nothing else.
I'm just presuming monarch Gizzard will release something. (edit: Hell yes. All praise Monarch Gizzard)
The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place turns 17 this year, so they should definitely tour that set.
is such a lovely 2000's style tMG track

Though, I'm never buying any merch until on my way out of a show, the hell I'm carrying that all night long.

Slowly coming to a realization that Beach Slang is one of the better traditional rock bands rn?
Haven’t stopped listening to Tommy in the ‘80s and the rest are great too.

Mostly buy vinyl from shows, and also have a subscription to VMP.
I have no idea what's coming out this year, but I'm probably most excited for Kvelertak?

I probably buy my top two or three albums of the year from local record stores, and then will once in a while supplement with a purchase from a show. A few times a year I'll buy an mp3 album on bandcamp from a smaller artist that I find myself streaming a bunch.

-Do you still buy music? If so, where?
I pay for Spotify, buying physical music is a pain in the ass. After moving twice in a year I've bought like a single vinyl record.
-What is your most anticipated release of 2020?
Frank Ocean
-Which albums have an anniversary year this year that you hope could mean a tour / reissue / celebration?
White Pepper is 20 years old now, I'd go to a White Pepper show.
-Post a song you’re listening to this week and a genuine thought about why you like it.
Song just slaps for 20 straight minutes

A few times a year I'll buy an mp3 album on bandcamp from a smaller artist that I find myself streaming a bunch. i need to get back on my bandcamp binge cause that's how i found a lot of my favorite albums for like 2012-2018 and i kinda fell off of it last year for some reason. and yeah i always make a point to get a physical copy of my favorite 5-10 albums from each year. finally just ordered Lingua Ignota cause prosthetic records had it in a color variant for much cheaper than any of the stores by me

i dont remember us talking about it? sorry fam. it is really good tho! Nah, all jokes. There were like 3 times throughout the year when folks would say they checked it out and loved it without hearing anybody talk about it, after I posted a few times when it came out and each time somebody commented on it. /eeyore

i made as much of a contribution as you did? you: "beach slang are good." me: "beach slang are not actually." car seat headrest are a band better at aping old rock bands and yet actually do something interesting with it.

"one of the better" is pretty broad and a fairly low bar. Makes sense that Beach Slang, a band that I have to date not listened to and have no plans to, could fall under such a category.
