Also want to give props here to.... THE NATIONAL for spearheading the Day of the Dead compilation, which - in addition to re-introducing me to the Dead - really catalyzed them into an accepted / major band amongst indie kids. I want to one day write a 33 1/3 book about that record. whaaaaaaat Nah, but for real, I swear I'm not making this up. Perception amongst non-heads was waaaay different in like 2014 compared to even, say, 2017-2018. Maybe there are other, bigger reasons for this that I'm not accounting for. Like it or not, Dead & Co are a significant factor. But in terms of convincing skeptics to dig into the catalogue, I maintain that this comp had a sizable impact.

Want to clarify that I don't hate the Strokes, fwiw. I literally taught myself how to play drums in high school by listening to / playing along with Is This It over and over and over again. I just kinda hate what they've become.

Well I mean 2015 was the big Dead reunion show, which was a huge deal for anyone with a passing interest in music, and the side shows from that spurred the Day of the Dead album, so I guess I wouldn't exactly hand this to the National.

I understand that this might be your take but try not to give this one to neader I'm such a curmudgeon for the last 15-years of their career, I almost think I'd include them in the top three had they broken up before/after Angles. I unashamedly love The New Abnormal and it was also pretty easily their biggest mainstream success since at least First Impressions.

Yeah its definitely on the Spotify indie coffeehouse playlist or whatever. In fairness to the cover tho when me and I believe Bird saw him at the Vic it was an absolute showstopper. Not sure if that was pre or post the album coming out

Mmm this is a good point that I'd somehow forgotten about. I still think Day of the Dead had a pretty significant impact on the demographic I'm referring to - Phish wasn't exactly popular with that crowd circa 2015 either. But I wasn't aware of FTW begetting DotD, in which case the two do seem to go fairly hand-in-hand.

It's easily my favorite song on that comp. Same - tho Moses Sumney's "Cassidy" is a favorite too. Plus Ira Kaplan doing Wharf Rat. And - apologies for my slander earlier scoots - but Daniel Rossen's "High Time" also kills.

I interpreted the question as the band with the greatest/most significant post-94 output, not necessarily bands that started after '94.
If Phish are disqualified then I switch my vote to TAB

It's not the correct answer but Rage is a pretty big deal every time they decide to come out of hiding. No new music in like 20+ years though.

I posed this question to a friend and he said Rage but I argued they don't qualify as post Nirvana since their first and arguably biggest hit came out in 92 at peak Nirvana time I mean I also interpreted it as post-94 output but I feel like if you can't decouple the pre-94 output from the bands legacy then they don't count
