Unorthodox is doing a live taping at LSA on June 26th.
Never been to a live podcast taping before but I'll be there for sure.

I have a 5 hour road trip with my mom. She enjoyed S-Town and the first season of Serial and wants to listen to another "series" podcast, any recommendations?

The new 30 for 30 5-part series on Donald Sterling and the Clippers was really worth a listen. They go deep into his history, his personality and behavior both before and after buying the team, his legal issues with alleged discriminatory real estate practices (all well before the recording that brought him down), and how the NBA did nothing about his behavior and attitudes (despite plenty of evidence) until they were forced to. Strongly recommend.

I don’t know if I’m the only regular chapo trap house listener here at this point and I’m a couple episodes behind but also I have literally no idea why Amber is on this show anymore and when she’s on the show is frequently worse for it.

was only ever a sometime listener but Warren's candidacy has sent most of them off the deep end.

I agree with like 25% of their Warren takes at most and I’m glad they’ve been shifting away from talking about that as much (though the most recent ep has some decent analysis of her candidacy) but every time Amber yells at them and calls them stupid for thinking Jeffrey Epstein was murdered while on the same episode thinking it’s more than a coincidence she encountered a Midwesterner in Brooklyn (while she is a Midwesterner in Brooklyn) I lose another piece of my mind.

Has anyone listened to the Woodstock '99 podcast (or anything else on Luminary?)
I luckily enjoy enough free content that I have never paid for podcasts, but I think I might like to hear this one. At $7.99 a month I think Luminary is probably worth trying out even if just to hear the Woodstock one...but curious if anyone has other suggestions!

I was thinking of getting Luminary for that, The Axe Files, and Rewatcahbles 1999. I doubt I'd keep it for more than a few months though if their other original content isn't great

I figure the worst that comes of this is I pay for it for the one month I forget to shut it off. Will pull the trigger before Saturday so I can listen while traveling.

I know it’s a few months old now but I just listened to the David Lee Roth episode of WTF today. Would highly recommend it if you haven’t listened yet. They focus pretty much exclusively on his pre Van Halen life and musical education and it gave me a ton more respect for him and the music in general overall. Really interesting interview.

The new format of Punch Up the Jam is ok and will probably develop for a bit but I don’t necessarily love the idea that they won’t actually do a punch up every episode? I don’t know, it’s probably fine and I might just be sad about Demi leaving.

Just started Infamous. There's a series about Salem that I'm going to listen to first, but the primary interest is a Black Sox series.

Who Charted moved to Stitcher Premium How exactly does this work? I found Whooch on the Stitcher app, but don't see any new episodes since they were dropped by Earwolf last week. (maybe there just aren't any out yet) Going to cancel Luminary and head to Stitcher since its about the only podcast I listen to every single week.

Any of you guys listen to Doug Loves Movies? It's my #1 roadtrip podcast so I'm trying to stock up before driving home this weekend.
Curious if you've got fav episodes or guests so I can make a lil playlist?

I have some residual affection for DLM because it's like the first podcast but for the last several years I've found it 50% insufferable and only ever listen if already I like at least two of the guests. It could be really good with some tweaks to the format and a little more presence of mind from Doug but hard to see that happening at this point.
Anyway I guess what I'm saying is the ep with the Scotts and Galifinakis from a few months ago was the last I listened to and it was fine

I could never just sit around and listen to DLM but on long car rides, it really works for me - DB is one of those people I can just sort of listen to getting caught up in his head, and I like to play along with the games. A few 90 min eps really make the 8hr drive seem way shorter. It does drag an absolute ton when the guests aren't very good which is why I'm trying to stock up on good bets. Geoff Tate is always a winner for me for being so goofy, and Hamm can be a good time too. Just looking for people I may not have heard of that really shine on the show. Jeff Garlin bugs the absolute fuck out of me on there.

We listened to Derailed on the way home which is about the proposed train between Madison and Milwaukee and how it quite nearly came to fruition before being struck down. It was massively interesting, even outside of hearing direct impacts in the community I live in now, but because I find trains/public transit super cool. Highly recommend.

This was very interesting and I like how they clearly depicted Tommy Thompson as the chump that he is but I wish they had gone into a bit of the racist dogwhistling that occurred in the discussions of having the train stop in suburban Waukesha county. That's the richest county in the state and very very Republican. The idea that people from the "inner city" might get off the train in Waukesha outweighed any interest in say, not drunk driving home from a Brewers game.
I believe at some point they had the trains on display in Milwaukee, my folks went and toured them. And it's wild how Scott Walker et al hyped up the "trains are for poors" angle, that's definitely a conversation my parents had with Republican friends around that time.

I was hoping they would cover that in the bonus episode but they didn’t and it kind of sucked. Also when they talked about how expensive the California project was and then said “would it be so bad in Wisconsin? Who’s to say?” When the answer is an obvious no, since the route already exists, I lost my mind a little bit.
Still cool and informative and I got emotional when they described what the train looks like

Sorry, edits above.
Also fun story once when I was a kid I was at my friend's house (they had a dairy farm) and she answered the phone and it was Tommy Thompson. Her dad was a big Republican because farm subsidies but her mom was a Democrat. It was an interesting dynamic. Eventually the subsidies weren't cutting it so they sold and now the farm is a golf course behind my parents' house.
My folks hated Tommy Thompson so much that they tore his picture out of the rest area state map we kept in the car.
