on this day in 2008, i saw todd rundgren at park west.
one of my work friends is a huge fan and had an extra. when we get to the window to pick up the tickets, the woman says he's not on the list. she then checks the list for rundgren's other park west show, which is the next week. he's on that list. she says "come back tuesday." he gets really upset like "there's no way i would've bought tickets for a tuesday night show. i live in roselle. i don't come to the city on weeknights. i also have two kids under 5. there's just no way that's right." they go back and forth a little bit. the line behind us is getting long and it is awkward. she walks away for a minute and returns with two tickets.
but rundgren's got a cold and his voice isn't great. my friend is not thrilled with the setlist. overall, not the best night. but i'd still jump at going to a concert like that today.
nana probably swooped in and grabbed your friend's list spots and then left after 2 songs
have only seen todd at the riv and at tower on clark, never park west.

krentist: "This fest suffers big time from "airline mentality" where they keep finding exciting new ways to make the experience progressively worse for the average attendee" krentist: "you don't live in the fucking sticks, who do you need to travel for on this lineup that you've never seen?" krentist: "As always this fest looks thin when spread out like this."
Funny story. Someone captured this off the satellite feed in 2007, stuck it on a disc, and sat on it for 13 years without knowing anyone was looking for it.

this is great.
i saw them in LA and at lolla that year. and both days were just really memorable in general. before the LA show was my first time at amoeba in hollywood and then i got some awesome mexican food with an old friend. and then i saw the mets beat the cubs at wrigley before lolla.
on this day in 2004, i saw the unicorns in philadelphia. they were fun and they put on an entertaining show. i knew they were kinda kitschy, but they pulled it off.
i went to the show with a guy from the boarddot equivalent that i posted on back then. a few years later, a woman left me for him after he left his wife in an in-patient psychiatric facility in arizona. and now i can't think of the unicorns without also thinking about that whole thing.
also, the next time unicorns played in philly was a few months later. i didn't go to the show because i'd just seen them. but that guy went again and he said the opening band was amazing. they were called arcade fire.
Hi bosma I see you liking my post about the three hour guns and roses set. I haven’t forgotten about when you hated on guns and roses on this board, so I’m using this top of the page to put you on blast. Stop being a fake motherfucker. It’ll get you further in life in the long run.
20 years ago today I saw Beck when he toured for Midnite Vultures. Had to drive through a snowstorm to get to STL.
The show was very good - I remember lots of neon colors and lights onstage - but I had two complaints:
1. Didn't play anything from Mutations 2. They ended with 'Devil's Haircut'. Not a good song to end on - it's an announcement, it deserves to go first.
As long as the music's loud enough, we won't hear the world falling apart.
2. They ended with 'Devil's Haircut'. Not a good song to end on - it's an announcement, it deserves to go first.
this made me look back at beck setlists i've seen. twice he appropriately opened with "devil's haircut." but the first time i saw him he closed with it. and "loser" opened that show. also, that show was awesome.
slipped my mind but yesterday was 9 years since i saw real estate, black dice, the babies, and oneohtrix point never at a chinese buffet in ridgewood queens. i also got a smart phone for the first time just a few weeks before the show so we got some great pictures here lol top one from a news article so something is distinguishable. i'm pretty sure the pic of the guy in the crowd is a dude who went by the name of dj dog dick.

2 years ago today was the Kacey Musgraves show I got tickets to at the complete last minute because the Chicago show was postponed. I remember thinking “I don’t think I’ve held tickets to many postponed shows” which lol now.
1 year ago today I saw Bernie Sanders open for Vampire Weekend which I’m very thankful for now that I probably won’t be seeing Vampire Weekend for a while.

2/3/12 - 9 years since bjork's biophilia live at the new york hall of science. believe i went the same night as pulp and genghis. once again, a news article picture at the top then a couple of mine
on this day in 2009, i saw the pains of being pure at heart play a 25-minute headlining set at schubas. at the merch table afterward, kip was very offended that i pointed out they played less time than both openers. "you guys don't know a cover that'll get you up to at least a half-hour?" was not taken as lightly as i meant it.
on this day in 2012, i saw the darkness at metro. it was an entertaining show.
on this day in 2001, i saw flogging molly and the blue meanies at laga in pittsburgh. a guy at the foot of the stage kept touching flogging molly's violinist's feet. she and the singer told him to stop many times. he continued. my recollection is that she turned to the singer at one point shrugging in frustration and so the singer kicked the guy in the face. that was when security got involved and threw the guy out.
on this day in 2004, i saw super furry animals and papa m at the TLA in philly. i can't find SFA's setlist from that night, but other setlists from the tour are all similar and close to my memory of hearing nearly everything i was hoping for. this was definitely one of the better times i saw them. "the man don't give a fuck" in the yeti suits was top-notch.
The only time I've seen Blue Meanies was the Riot Fest aftershow at the Bottom Lounge a few years ago. It was incredible and I really wish I had been around to see them in their heyday.
