I saw Flogging Molly in 2009 at the Austin City Limits fest. It rained all that day, but they were a blast to watch.

I agree that was a miserable day, but !!! was also fun in the rain, and I saw the end of John Legend's set and it was good.

The GY!BE show at the Rockefeller Chappel was 5 years ago tonight. That was such a great place to see a show Dang, 5 years already? I was there too - drove up to see them there, and the following night at Thalia Hall (where I had a bad stomachache that dampened my enjoyment). The Rockefeller Chapel show was the best out of the - counts on fingers - 7 times I've seen them.

2 years ago was the great P4k weekend at the Art Institute. Today was the day Bradford Cox ended up on the floor in front of me singing the end of Monomania in the middle of the crowd.
And it's now been one year since I was at Thalia for Wolf Parade.

I was thinking about that experience yesterday. It was definitely something unique and I’m glad they did it but hoo boy I bet the insurance on that wasn’t cheap

on this day in 2008, i saw super furry animals at metro with times new viking. i think the show with caribou a few years earlier was better, but this was still pretty good.

4 years ago today was RTJ at the Aragon and a security guard tried to get me cast in a John Goodman movie.

oooo I got a story about that show. I was living extremely close to the Aragon at the time and Rango and I made a ticket pact as it had sold out before we bought. An hour before showtime I got a sketchy ass Craigslist message from a dude based in Seattle who couldn't make the show in Chicago for some reason. I think he sold us a pair one at a time with me paying half as we went, and Rango was the test dummy and went in before (he was drinking at Uptown Lounge doing the same searching?) and made sure the tickets were legit. A RLF who was pregaming for the show at my place with me was impressed and/or concerned that I could do such a thing.
Edit: my concert doc tells me Gaslamp Killer opened this show, which was extremely cool at the time but is extremely not cool now!

The only RTJ show I saw at the Aragon was the one with QOTSA, which I don't think was the show in question? I think the one I saw was part of Q101's holiday shows or something.

I remember being really upset that I didn’t plan to make the drive from Peoria for that show and then promptly saw them 3 times basically by accident on that album cycle anyways

I saw the apartment that was used as John Goodman's apartment in this movie and it was tiny and literally inches from the red line (which I assume is why they chose it) and the landlord said to me genuinely after telling me this information "I don't think John Goodman lived here however, I'm pretty sure he had a hotel"

The JAM tweet reminded me that 20 years ago today, I saw Glenn Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket play a solo acoustic show at Schubas. It was a seated show, he had a new guy name John Mayer opening the show for him. Thought Mayer was a pretty good guitar player at the time and could hear alot of his influences in his playing.

20 years ago today I saw Smash Mouth and Luscious Jackson on the Yahoo! Out Loud tour. They played the convention center here in our town. I went mostly for Luscious Jackson, who played a fun show in town about 6 months previously (I got to meet them all afterwards too!).
LJ's opening set was really good.
I had seen Smash Mouth at a radio station fest previously and remembered very little about it. Would they be better as a headlining band? Nope. A few songs in to their set, I got bored and left my spot to go hang around the left side of the floor, almost behind the stage. They played 'All Star' twice, the second time in the encore where they had the audience sing the lyrics. At the time, I thought that was kind of cool.

There was one of those $5 cover, wait in line to get in shows at the Bottle that I went to on this day in 2017. Dan deacon/marijuana death squads/air credits was the bill. That’s all I remember about this show!

The Dan Deacon set in the tent at Riot Fest was super fun. Thinking about it now gives me a bit of COVID anxiety however.

Our last Frozen Winter Dancing to date happened one year ago today.
Also 8 years ago, I took my daughter to see Passion Pit at the UIC, that was a very good time. I think Icona Pop opened, that was before I Love It broke out

Our last Frozen Winter Dancing to date happened one year ago today. oof, it has been a year since i've been to a show. this is my longest show-less stretch since sometime in 1994. on this day, i also saw wilco at the chicago theater in 2017 and the national outside the sydney opera house in 2018. both seem like forever ago.
