i am not and have never been a chicago resident but my first show there was a house of vans show with preoccupations playing that most importantly had good free food and alcohol and i got to meet nana for the first time (and lots of other boarders were there though I think I had met a lot at that point at the various FFF's we all went to) also the bouncer made me show him a second form of ID because he didn't believe my texas ID and I tried to show him a Texas fishing license I happened to have which he still didn't accept because it didnt have a picture and then I found my expired college ID and he finally let me in
I still wonder why he thought I faked a texas fishing license

and that sweet drone/noise event that Red Bull put on. Ah, the “sounds so loud I thought my organs would fly out my asshole” event After the perfectly serene Phillip Glass show you took in with me, mrs ten15 and rango....

My first show as an adult Chicago resident was Foxygen at Lincoln Hall. Absolutely terrific. One of those shows where it looks like the band is going to break up on stage. Wait what holy shit. If this was in the fall of 2014 on the Star Power tour, then it was also my first show as a Chicago resident. Granted, I was an 18 y/o college freshman at the time, but still. I could have sworn this was 2013 but my brain is bad so you're probably right.

mine as a resident was Cigarettes After Sex in '17 at LH
first in general was Zola Jesus at Schubas before I moved to TX after college. I think alady and teekoh(?) where there and we got to see ZJ scurry through the crowd.

Greg and I were there. I think all of the people mentioned were the entire crowd.

I got to see Jeff at Lounge Ax too thankfully, may have been the same show! My Lounge Ax story is I had a ticket to see Golden Smog there, I was extremely psyched to see them. The door guy was very famous/notorious for not letting people in without an ID, even if you were constantly there. I got a ticket on the way to the venue, and had no other ID that they would accept. So I didn't get to see Golden Smog. : ( lounge ax shows I've seen, not in chronological order, and just off the top of my head: birth of bablicon -> olivia tremor control -> neutral milk hotel nashville pussy, with ms. parks breathing fire onto the low ceiling house of large sizes, and helium, but timony was much better outside on milw and fullerton with ex hex. kinky friedman doing ride 'em jewboy pansy division, which was an absolutely scary show. arcwelder, six finger satellite... was the dude from lcd soundsystem on the soundboard, who knows? peter stampfel from the holy modal rounders. also, the door man was always a schmuck. wesley willis was in the audience for a couple of these shows, because he really liked to hang out at lounge ax. edit: left out the Cinncinati band "Lazy," which had a lead singer / guitarist whose name is almost the same as mine. one of his band members took a picture of both of us, which would make a great social picture if I actually had a copy of it. edit number two: how could I forget what was advertised as a kim deal solo acoustic show, which in person turned out instead be kim and kelley playing electric guitars, including a scorching version of cannonball.

Today was a pretty good day of Wilco history for me, last year was that free lunch time show at the CAA, and 9 years ago I saw them at Metro.
And 3 years ago was one of my favorite festival weekends ever, Day For Night 2017. Early that day, I was in a target and saw some ponchos and umbrellas, and said "I'm sure I'll be fine without one of those." Whoops. Cut to me trying to dry my shoes that night in the hotel bathroom with the hair dryer.

wilco at metro 9 years ago was a pretty good show. cool poster that night, too. the only downside i remember is two guys next to me were smoking through much of the show and the nearest security guy would just casually motion for them to stop. so the guys kept their cigarettes down, but it didn't at all stop them.
also saw may or may not at the hideout in 2006. i don't think i have any recollection of that show.

5 years ago i saw the final of sleater-kinney's 5 nights of descending capacity venue shows at the new market hotel (its first show back). a very special night with genghisnyc and airportman, or part of a night i should say.

I was also with airportman at the final stop (Lincoln Hall) of the Wilco shrinking tour. He was merely an airportboy.

My phone's photo app has been sending me flashback photo album notifications from that Day for Night weekend. That was a great time. If only every fest had a Johnny Walker sample booth with practically no line the entire time And alligator po boy sandwiches I unfortunately discovered the Johnny Walker thing on the last day of the fest. I also recall that they ran out of the mediocre pod wine halfway through saturday and they brought in cases of random bottles of wine that that were remarkably better.

Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of seeing Kenny G fucking slay with my mom and sister in Youngstown, OH. Dude entered by walking through the aisles doing circular breathing, and the middle-aged women in the audience went fucking bananas. It was awesome.
