Anybody see Horsegirl yesterday? I just read their Band to Watch profile on Stereogum and am listening to their EP now and really liking it. More bands that dig Electrelane!

Yeah, thought Horsegirl sounded good, too. The bright sunshine was probably not the ideal vibe for their sound.

New St.Vincent album is still bad; but I enjoyed that set. Angel was my favorite yesterday. Heading in soon for Special Interest

Can't make it today so if anyone needs a free Sunday ticket let me know.
It's a 3 day pass that I used to scan in Friday and yesterday.

would be tempted, if I hadn't seen garbage and alanis yesterday at a way more overcrowded tinley than I had expected. and I'm not big on danny brown or erykah or flying lotus who are already trapper kept.
in reply to dij.

Have a flight early tomorrow morning so just got back to my place. Usual top five ranking
Jamila Woods Yves Tumor Kim Gordon Kelly Lee Owens Armand Hammer
Danny set today was rough. Ended like 10 mins early, brought up how he doesn't remember all his lyrics, and had to stop during Ain't It Funny because he couldn't keep up.

Turned out to be a pretty great weekend. Nearly lasagna'd on today, bit it was worth going.
Top 5 I think black midi Special Interest aftershow Jamila Woods Dogleg Kelly Lee Owens
Also Sunday seemed to have the least amount of people by far, even though that day was "sold out"

Sick festival...here's hoping we all return to Surge Fest 2022, and it's even surge-ier than before.
...with perhaps less dust...that can be less of a thing.

Wow feel the total opposite I think mookie left before Danny Brown, which is when I first noticed it was packed I was going to quantify my statement with "unless several thousand people all showed up after Yves Tumor"

St. Vincent was the best headliner set I've seen since Sufjan.
Divino Nino was unreal. So was Waxahatchee. So was Big Thief.
Animal Collective is a jam band now.
Ty Segall was loud as shit and rocked my dick off.

Anyways, extremely good fest. It was great to see so many of you. Some fave sets off the top of my head:
Yves Tumor Kim Gordon Caroline Polachek Firey Furnaces Big Thief Waxahatchee Maxo Kream
I thought the Phoebe set was good, maybe not great if only for the fact that I think she has very soft music to play for a huge headlining set but that’s kinda where her career is at so I can’t argue with it too much. That being said the final run was phenomenal and really landed for me.
Food lines were brutal on Friday and they should really add another refilling station. Dust was bad. Also Danny Brown was really bad, which was kinda depressing.
Also St Vincent was great, though the new songs still do nothing for me

hot take: "_________ is a jam band now" is generally an extremely incorrect take

hot take: "_________ is a jam band now" is generally an extremely incorrect take I just wish one of these indie bands who flirt with jam tropes/sounds (VW, AnCo, Real Estate, etc) would actually lean into it. Would be awesome and would be a cool way to expand their audience/longevity?

Would be awesome and would be a cool way to expand their audience/longevity? Did some more thinking on this topic. More bands that could fit this category: Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Grizzly Bear, War on Drugs (who're kinda close to there already), Malkmus (who WAS there w/ Real Emotional Trash but should go even further in that direction), and Wilco (at least on record: less whispery Tweedy singing and more Nels pls)
