The dragon glass placement makes sense because now Jon has to go meet Daenerys

Decent episode. Ed Sheeran part made me fucking gag and also I feel as if Arya got focus tested out of going full-on emotionless cutthroat killer. I'm past the point where I want her to be humanized, and that's certainly not where I feel like we left her off before. Cold open was good... obvious, but good. But, like, I'm not going to say it was amazing or anything. The show is definitely not in the bad place it once was but this episode didn't excite me all that much. I'm scared that the political maneuverings are through and we're just going to be having big fights with obvious goals going forward. I hope I'm wrong but the cunning/conniving nature of the political games seems like it was wiped out alongside Margaery and High Sparrow. Everything seems so set in place on most fronts that it feels like this could be the final season... which means I'm assuming that something big is going to shake it all up soon. Word! Other than that, it was an ok episode

really tho it was fine. nothing crazy but a lot of necessary setup for all the future battles. i didnt like any of the bit with Sam but i havent liked that story for a season or 2 now. the whole editing joke with the poop wasn't even funny and just kinda ate up time. also i dont mind the Dragonstone reveal because it makes sense, but my beef is why is Samwell fucking Tarly the only person to EVER figure that out and why only just now? (to be fair this show and even the books aren't great about that. i still don't how get Ned fucking Stark was the only person to figure out how genetics work and how the Baratheon kids had to be born of incest.) meanwhile, Eric and I literally gasped at the Arya cold open. "Wait i thought he was...is this a flashba--OH MY GOD" i did like seeing Dany at Dragonstone and no one speaking. very moving scene. Jaime and Cersei is kinda tiring but i suspect it's gonna lead to a pretty badass betrayal. also more details on how she and Euron formed this meeting would've been nice -- cause it seemed like Euron was heading straight to fight Dany at the end of S6. overall fine and fun episode but nothing amazing besides Arya.

The great Arya cold open (even with its inherently predictable nature taking the wind out of its sails a bit) was counteracted pretty hard by Sheeran and what I considered to be a mischaracterization of Arya in said scene.
Also, "not liking dialogue" is weird... it's these scenes that give the battles any stakes. Otherwise it would just be people hitting each other with swords and there's nothing interesting about that. It's the context that's important.
The Sam stuff was lame and boring, though. Poop thing was also horrible.
And as said above, the plotting was way too obvious.
Okay, maybe in retrospect I feel like this episode was pretty weak.

Idk why so many people are hating on this episode. It basically set up all the plot lines going forward in the most concise way possible. (I do agree on way too much Sam stuff though)

But that's par for the course for every GoT premier, no?
We've finally got all the players in the game on Westeros, things seem to be moving along just fine.

Also...Euron's "gift" has to be Tyrion right? (Maybe Gendry?)

Excellent observation. She also stated she "learned a lot" from Cersei.

How exactly does Dragonglass (obsidian (volcanic glass)) existing in surplus on a volcanic island qualify as dumb?

And yeah, mostly snoozy episode, but tables need to be set, and all the jazz. Real excited for when Jaime finally realizes that Cersei means inevitable death for those in her vicinity.
Interested to see the journey the Hound takes, right now.

Interested to see the journey the Hound takes, right now. I'm assuming he'll cross paths with Arya before she makes it to Kings Landing.... Also is his group headed there too? Or to the North to meet up with Jon?

They're currently headed north, as I recall. That said, I wasn't clear, but I was actually referring to emotional/spiritual.

How exactly does Dragonglass (obsidian (volcanic glass)) existing in surplus on a volcanic island qualify as dumb? Because they never mentioned it before and it comes up just in time when it's convenient to solve a problem.

I mean I feel like that was the whole point of Sam going to the Citadel/stealing the book...so it was to be expected. Unless you want longer Sam scenes explaining it (which I think nobody wants but I agree they should of elaborated on that story more than show him clean up shit for a good minute)

Are you familiar with obsidian mines in the contiguous U.S.? Do you talk about them regularly?

I watched the episode twice last night and loved it. My only issue was the poo scene with Sam was unnecessarily long. Can't wait for Jamie to turn on Cersei.

Are you familiar with obsidian mines in the contiguous U.S.? Do you talk about them regularly? No but I'm not living in a fantasy world that is being written with dragons and magic either. It's just lazy writing to write about these huge enemy coming for literally the whole show and then throw in something last minute that solves the issue. This isn't the first time we're hearing about Dragonstone, we could've had a scene seasons ago with Stannis and Davos deciding whether or not to take the weapons with them to fight or trade them to the iron bank for money or Mel saying they have special properties etc. Stannis could've brought it up to Jon when he was at the Wall. Either way it's lazy writing.

When did Davos or Stannis every say there was a mountain of Dragonglass on Dragonstone? I've watched every episode multiple times and they never indicated that. Neader I think you are just nitpicking.

Either way it's lazy writing. They literally mentioned in the episode how they mentioned it two seasons earlier, but all Stannis says is that they have Dragonglass in Dragonstone. Nothing about how much. And Stannis was 100 times more concerned with the War of the Five Kings at that time.

I remember them mentioning that but I don't remember Stannis actually ever saying that. If he did then I'll definitely withdraw the criticism.
