When did Davos or Stannis every say there was a mountain of Dragonglass on Dragonstone? I've watched every episode multiple times and they never indicated that. Neader I think you are just nitpicking. They didn't but they loved there and could've, that's my issue. Sam might as well as found out that there's a bunch of Dragon eggs on Dragonstone to kill the others.

How exactly does Dragonglass (obsidian (volcanic glass)) existing in surplus on a volcanic island qualify as dumb? My problem is, outside of its annoying convenience (which is something I could otherwise overlook), it's stupid that they would never have thought to look for *dragon*glass under *dragon*stone, plus "dragonglass under dragonstone" sounds stupid. It's obvious and uninteresting. Meh. They could have at least named the material or location differently.

Dragonstone is a castle made of out of stone melted by dragonfire. Nothing to do with Dragonglass, aside for the fact that the Targaryens chose that island because dragons like volcanos.

it's all fine and well for me i just don't like that Sam is the only person to ever piece it together -- then again i guess no one knew (somehow) that white walkers are v v v vulnerable to dragonglass so i guess he's one of the only ones who could've seen both sides of the equation to figure it out.
but really...no grandmaester ever checked a wiki of ice and fire?!

Honestly, at the end of the day I had a negative reaction to it emotionally in the moment. It just didn't work for me. It was far from the most egregious part of the episode but it made me cringe. So that impacts the way I feel about it. That's what's important to me.

Also...Euron's "gift" has to be Tyrion right? (Maybe Gendry?) from this week's Ask the Maester: Mal and I both lean heavily toward this being a reference to the dragonbinder horn from the books. In A Feast for Crows, Euron wins the kingsmoot, in part, by having one of his men blow the horn (the man soon died, and his lungs were found to be charred), which Euron claims to have found in the ruins of Valyria, as a demonstration of his prowess as a captain.
The horn is 6 feet long, warm to the touch, and banded with Valyrian steel adorned with glyphs. When blown, the glyphs glow and the horn produces a tremendous sound. Supposedly, the horn can be used to bind a dragon to a person’s will. A useful tool in the wars to come.

i was wondering if the horn was gonna come into this at all.
i figured at this point they're better off dodging it and just making euron straight up try to take the dragons from dany via battle or marriage
edit: can't really do the horn without Victarion either, who they've clearly given up on. :/ womp womp

as interesting as having Gendry's story tied up, since it was left open, the horn makes more sense in this scenario to be the gift. at least to me.

Also, what the fuck was the point of that whole Ed Sheeran scene last week when Arya inexplicably ends up somewhere else when she shows up in this episode? Literally why...
Episode was alright, last ten minutes rocked because fuck Dorne.

That's literally the dumbest shit I've ever read. No artistic integrity at all. No respect for what he's making.
And my bigger concern is that the scene meant nothing and Arya is randomly somewhere else in this episode.

anyway,
glad the Euron thing happened cause everything was going way too conveniently well for everyone -- tho it pretty much officially cements the sandsnakes as completely useless for this entire series.
the nymeria bit was fun after falco eric and i talked about it saturday. also totally called Melisandre showing up in Dragonstone and making the Dany+Jon connection
stilllllllllll dont care about the Sam story but hopefully Jorah gets him on track after Sam saves the day.
also also k at least we all agree fuck Bran and he dont need more screentime than is absolutely necessary anymore

Fucking fantastic episode. My only complaint is the unnecessary Greyworm Messendei scene but other than that wow.

Imagine Ed Sheeran being in one scene ruining this season of Game of Thrones for you so far... I joke I joke but still think there's so much awesome stuff going on after the end of that episode that it's silly to still focus on that

You guys are missing the point. I'm saying that the whole scene he was in was inconsequeltial and the timeline of how Arya went from being to them to bring in the keep is (unless I missed something) given no explanation. I'd be saying this regardless of Ed Sheeran, except that then Wretched shared the article and I had further comment on the Ed Sheeran thing.

This was from Alan Sepinwall's recap of the episode regarding Euron's appearance. Made me laugh
like if Pacey from Dawson’s Creek had an older brother who was way into Staind at one point but now denies it

I think the scene was very telling in Arya's character development for the rest of the season. They were Lannister soldiers. Arya hates the Lannisters/just murdered a whole house basically. Her talk with them makes her realize that they're human too and she doesn't need to directly kill every single member of the enemy. So I think it was consequential for that reason

Fair takeaway, but I didn't feel as if the show drove that point home and it was jarring that the last we saw her she was still hanging with those dudes but then ended up somewhere completely different inexplicably. It felt out of place. There must have been a more fluid way to make the same message (more strongly?) while retaining continuity.
