nothing is better than "while dany forgot about the iron fleet, they sure didn't forget about her." yes, very common for people at war to forget her enemies exist. lol last night when she burned the fleet, we all stood up and shouted "YAY SHE DIDNT FORGET!"

Yeah, I don't have an issue with where Dany ended up, it's been consistently suggested by her entire overall arc. It's the speed at which she got there, both within this season, and last night in particular that leaves it so unsatisfying. As a diehard Dany fan i agree with this. Her going "mad" is fine but her going from fighting for the living two episodes ago to this is terrible.

Nah, the Hound freaks out at Winterfell when they burn the trenches. That's what freezes him. I don't think he runs into any fiery areas. alright fair enough. i shouldve watched that episode twice but meh. either way i didnt think cleganebowl was as well written as D&D suggest but it did look gorgeous so w/e

The problem I have with this is while Dany has had a cruel streak at times it has always been directed at those who in power who abuse it at the expense of those they lead/rule. She has always been kind to those in society less fortunate. Remember when she freed all those slaves? The writers apparently forgot. To go totally mad makes sense only in the context of her entire character arc if she had directed it at the Red Keep and the enemy forces. What she did to the citizens of King's Landing makes no damn sense whatsoever.

Anyone who thinks they are born to be king is a tyrant is not exactly a new concept. It is funny it happened in like 3 insanely sloppy and problematic episodes.

I mean there are under 3 hour narratives where that has been accomplished. Probably could’ve been done with less “look all of our dragon show friends in one room!” Scenes

Yeah you're right. Sometimes I forget that like one season is as much runtime as like 5 star wars movie.

They could have cut the action from episode 3 and 5 in half and not lost that much.

Idk after watching Leslie Jones' recaps I am kind of feeling Dany on her scorched earth policy. They keep killing her dragons and the nephew she's been boning has rejected her, burn it down. Burn it alllll down.

They could have cut the action from episode 3 and 5 in half and not lost that much. before knowing the ending, i wouldve said the Winterfell battle needed to be a full episode. knowing what happens now, i definitely would've preferred less running in the dark and more exposition afterwards to actually, ya know, explain things. the weird thing about making the King's Landing fight a full episode is that it's not a fight. they mow down the lannisters so easily that you spend most of the episode fearing Dany and just feeling bad for the lannister forces that surrendered and the civilians getting torched. i think that's what makes Cersei's death so meh for people is that we dont even see her in this episode (or season, really) that much before jaime convinces her to just bail and then get buried beneath the keep

Burn it alllll down. Yeah, I don't mind it for these reasons either. A lot of the point of the show seems to be that no one in power has ever done right by the masses and folks with ambitions of power might not be the best options to change that in this world. The problem for me with a show with that as it's premise, that occasionally offers hope or an alternative only to throw up its hands and say "nothing ever changes", isn't interesting or worth writing. Edit: Not at all saying I thought Dany was a good or positive alternative. Moreso a move toward consideration of the common folk by people typically on the fringes of power (women in general, bastards, broken things).

Exactly, years and years of building all this tension and now it feels like an anti climax. It took what? 7 years for Dany to finally reach Westeroos? and in one episode she went from Winterfell to King's Landing and back? Nice

Okay... With the scorpions... I swear I watched a different episode than some people.
Anyway, she was taken by surprise the first time. She didn't see the scorpion bolts coming.
She learned from this and was VERY CLEARLY adjusting her altitude and maneuvering to stay clear of the bolts the second time. The scorpions were very clearly slow to aim.

Honestly, I can buy last episode to a degree, because it's been shown that the dragons aren't nearly as good at air combat without someone like Dany or Jon controlling them. And once the first bolt hit, it's that much easier for every one after that. And presumably all the scorpions were firing at close to the same time there.
But to have Dany pull away after that, when she was almost in distance of roasting Euron, only to do it without a problem while closing a larger distance two days later just smacks of forced plotting. And you can't ignore the wild discrepancy in how effective they were.

She learned from this and was VERY CLEARLY adjusting her altitude and maneuvering to stay clear of the bolts the second time. The scorpions were very clearly slow to aim. some what true for the first shot at Rhaegal (although it's clearly suggested that the ships were hidden behind a mountain so not sure how they pulled that off) but then Euron lands several more shots with perfect accuracy on a moving boat with a scorpion that pivots around pretty easily to take him down. it tries to establish euron's fleet as the one means that can easily destroy dragons and render dany useless. why he's not manning one of the scorpions in this episode, and why they're suddenly so hard to turn around (or why all the boats were facing the same direction and not bothering to look upward) is pretty asinine, by episode 4's logic. it's just a real mismatch feeling of when Euron is brilliant versus when he's an idiot. and Dany's only solution in either case it to charge right at them. This time it's at a slightly higher angle, which okay, but then once she reaches the water she's pretty much at easy-to-strike level and just luckily outmaneuvers them this time. there's also considerably less ships even trying to attack her than in episode 4, which is weird because they clearly know a battle is coming and were expecting her in some manner. im not really one to pull my hair out over something like the physical logistics of a dragon escaping crossbows on bolts -- but if we're gonna commit to this setup, it should at least be kinda consistent.

And you can't ignore the wild discrepancy in how effective they were. they also really couldnt decide how many ships euron built and how many golden company soldiers were purchased. the ships this time went down in 2 minutes after drogon did like 3 passes through them. originally when they were first trying to show off the fleet, it looked as big as king's landing itself. minor scale complaints i know but again, it felt inconsistent with what was setup leading to this battle

You know what would have fixed both episodes?
Having a Scorpion take out her other dragon right as the city surrenders.

Just saying... She wasn't taken off guard the second time and there are at least three shots of her diving under or flying over a bolt (intentionally). I feel like some people missed that. Maybe they were too busy throwing their arms up at that first shot where she appears to fly directly at Euron, which did concern me initially. It was initially janky.

kinda neat rundown of how they shot a lot of it.
also helps explain why King's Landing looks so jarringly different this season (no Dubrovnik)

Just rewatched and can't believe Jamie and Euron fought. There was no reason to.
