Yeah, I can't fucking wait for it but I doubt anything could top this show. It'll be a cool stage show I'm sure so I'll want to see it anyway, but this was savage.

I really wish park bandshell concerts weren't a thing. First at PJ Harvey, now at Fleet Foxes... people just fucking talk the whole time. Band was fantastic but it took me half the show to find a decent spot, that being underneath the speaker in the front so that I could drown out the talking. If I can help it, I'm done buying tickets to these shows. Hoping tomorrow night doesn't present the same problems... kinda wish I wasn't going but I have a ticket now so I guess that's that.
Alex G was bad music imho, really didn't enjoy that set

Hans Zimmer is definitely worth seeing live.

Had a much better time at Fleet Foxes night 2. Being a bit more removed from NIN helped... still talking, but it was less crowded and less annoying. Great show. Timed it so I showed up right after Alex G which was good too.

Huh surprised they played the exact same set both nights. That's discouraging.

They've been playing the same main set for basically the whole tour, but I'm disappointed with the lack of change in the encore. They played Montezuma instead of Oliver James at the first show of the US leg but proceeded to play the latter every night since. People were screaming requests for Montezuma so I was hoping... but nah. Sucks because I wanted to hear it.
Main set is incredibly tight and structured though so I don't think that needs to be changed.

spoon was terrific tonight. though i thought the setlist order was a bit wonky (bit if a lull midway but it picked up at the end. maybe the crowd was just meh)
good start to the nonfest weekend

Spoon set had a big lull in the middle and they went a bit overboard with the synth interludes.

Yeah, it's a bit disappointing but maybe Robin just doesn't want to put all his cards on the table with this tour in order to make sure they keep people's interest. Bedouin Dress is another I'd love to hear in future. I haven't seen them since Lolla '09 before this so all the Helplessness Blues songs are new live to me as well.

I preferred that they played Oliver James to Montezuma, but I did see them on the Helplessness Blues tour.
I went to the first Prospect Park show and yes there was a lot of people talking, but I've been to other shows there that have been better up front.

i agree on the weirdly constructed spoon setlist last night. but they were still fun. i really enjoyed "i turn my camera on" and "rent i pay."
unfortunately, we ended up in the vaping section. i could've done without that. and there is no reason whatsoever that metro shouldn't have the fans on for a sold out show in august.

That's fair, Oliver James is great live even if it's not one of my favs by any stretch. It gives Robin a chance to show off his vocals which is prob why he likes it. I just wish that when they played two nights they changed it up a bit with a different encore song for those who double dipped.

I really enjoyed that set. I was hoping they'd follow 'I Ain't The One' with 'Shotgun' to try and pick the pace back up, but they didn't. Ended up being kind of a weird intermission of sorts. Everything else was great and Britt doing 'I Summon You' by himself was pretty cool.
I was trying to find the setlist from the Riv show I saw them do on the Ga Ga tour with Ponys opening, which is the only other time I've seen them indoors, but I can't. That one was near perfect, but this was pretty close.

It looks like a well balanced setlist, just wish they were playing Shotgun.

I obtained some free tickets to the "I Love the 90's Tour" at the Soaring Eagle Casino last night. Here’s a quick review that’s longer than it really needs to be for those who are curious, lol:
It was just as campy as you’d expect something like that to be, but it was still a lot of fun. They spent too much time with nostalgia…shout outs to old school this and that, “Remember whens” and “Hey! … Ho!” audience participation shtick. However, when the hits dropped, everyone was belting them out.
C&C Music Factory played a solid 15 minutes. I guess one of the original vocalists obtained all rights and tours under the name and no one else is associated with the group. It was kind of weird. My wife leaned over to me during the set and said, "Oh man, my Barbies used to have crazy dance parties to these guys."
Tone Loc was next. Dude's voice is deeper and scratchier than ever. It was my turn to make the beverage run (located just outside the theater), the line was huge, and I missed Wild Thing. My first of two regrets for the night (The second being the Zima we drank at the end of the night…ugh why?). His performance was pretty weak, and his hype man carried a lot of the weight.
Biz Markie hit the stage. We were immediately worried that we were about to witness a death. He performed most of the show sitting down and hunched over, but got pretty animated during “Just a Friend” and the place went nuts.
Rob Base: I honestly had no idea who this was. And it didn’t really matter, because he spent most of the set hyping the crowd and spinning tracks that obviously weren’t his. Not a great set.
Naughty by Nature played a much longer set than the previous acts, and they were very into it. I’m not too familiar with their work, but I had a lot of fun watching them. They busted out OPP right away.
TLC headlined. They did not have a Left Eye hologram, but they got the job done regardless. The show was very entertaining. They had live instruments, dancers, great banter. I had no idea that they had new music out. They played about three new tunes.
Pretty good for a free show, I’d say.

He's Rob Base and he came to get down. He's not internationally known, but he's known to rock a microphone.

Damn, if I had known I could have seen Bouncing Souls and Rancid and then left early I probably would have done that show... it was so nice out.

I think my bodies finally recovered enough from Lolla for a concert. Looking forward to the free one at Millennium Park tomorrow.

Last night I caught the Fleet Foxes at the Arvest Theater @ the Midland venue with Alex G opening. The Midland is a solid venue, and I've seen a variety of shows there - David Cross stand-up, Jack White solo, Spoon on two separate occasions, and the Stone Temple Pilots just to name a few. All shows there have been great and last night continued that trend.
Alex G was a good opener, but not the best. Out of his 10 song set, the first half was great, plowing through Bobby, Proud, and Poison Root off of Rocket. Half way through the set though, he busted out his noise oriented segue track from Rocket "Horse" and that completely lost the crowd. A good chunk of people just walked away at that point. I stuck around for County and Sportstar which were good rebound songs but he'd have been better off plugging more of Rocket's crowd pleasing tracks - especially now that this morning he just announced a show in Lawrence in October. You could also tell that the Rocket material wasn't translating super well live at the venue, but his few older tracks like "Kute" and "Kicker" all came off just fine. I'd see him again but his Oct. show conflicts with PG/xx.
I haven't seen FF since Lolla 2009, which was a small set of cuts obviously from their debut. It was a great show, as it was the first show of the weekend for me and Chicago was getting a light drizzle at the time - very similar to the Antlers set in 2010 Sunday morning where they played in front of a tattered lolla banner. Last night's show was completely different.
Crack-Up material live is very good, especially Third of May, Fool's Errand, If You Need to Keep Time On Me, and On Another Ocean. Opening with the beginning tracks of Crack-Up was kind of a mixed bag for the KC crowd, but as they segued into Cassius it was lit. Hearing the new material live and seeing how the band counteracts with each other, I'm actually more impressed with Crack-Up. Expanding your sound is not an easy thing, and they've done it here, and moved through cuts seamlessly. Now it's been 8 years since I've seen them, and the last time was basically just an acoustic set, but the freak/experimental folk of Crack-Up live is impressive. Peckhold's voice had minor issues, which could have been the venue, fatigue, what have you. Moments where you'd expect him to soar were a bit more subdued such as during The Shrine where he belts out "Sunlight over me no matter what I do" was not as chilling as it is on record.
A fantastic setlist too, with ample time spent in each stage of their short career. As I said, opening with Crack-Up tracks may not have been the best plan, but as soon as Ragged Wood and Your Protector came into play, the night went smoothly. There's also something very therapeutic about hearing Helplessness Blues live with a theater full of 30-somethings singing along. It's one of his more straightforward works, but it's a personal favorite of mine and it was a great way to close the main set.
Highlights: Helplessness Blues, Your Protector, The Shrine, Battery Kinzie, If You Need to, Keep Time On Me.
