Missed this earlier. He was sliding like that all season to protect his pitching arm. He stole 59 bases so it worked pretty well until it didn't in kind of freak fashion.

The ball hit is very similar. Defensive positioning is not. Rizzo is much deeper and off the line in the 5th with the bases loaded because a ball hit to short or second should go to second. His responsibility is to cover more ground on the right side - the pitcher needs to be at 1B for this reason.

Both of them said they had a weird read on the ball - the spin kind of threw them off. Rizzo went more conservative with how he charged the ball, but I still have no idea what Cole was doing.

Not enough talking about the catcher interference that put Ohtani on base and ended up accounting for the winning run.

The Dodgers’ slugging percentage was .406. The Yankees’ was .412.

The Dodgers’ ERA was 4.80. The Yankees’ was 3.83.

The Yankees had more hits, more homers, more stolen bases and more walks. They allowed far fewer baserunners.

They didn’t catch the ball and play defense, though. Teams should catch the ball and play defense if they want to win a World Series. (The Yankees also ran the bases like a bunch of ding-a-lings, too.)

rays averaged 16k per home game in 2024 and that field holds 11k. i am sure they can add some temporary seating to bump that up.

rain postponements are going to completely screw up that schedule, though.
