thoughts from the couch
-MIKE'S SONG OPENER!
-Man, a 12min* Mikes > Hydro > Weekapaug seems light and weak. I love this stretch so much, and am still delighted to be in the groove, but wish it was a little more blown-open like I've heard. I know they gotta warm up and get their sea legs.
Speaking of sea legs, Theme tonight?** I'm calling Tweezer, Piper, and and #Line tonight
-Good Theme, but I felt like they were kinda trying to push it somewhere it never went and eventually gave up. What they did with it was aight.
-Blaze On is really not a fav but I like where it goes sometimes so I'm giving it a chance; might be time to spark up
-Momma sing sing thatya gotta jibboo!!!!
-Absolutely fucking with here to the end of the first set, with 46 Days (meh), Evolve (yes), Meatstick!!!, and David Motherfucking Bowie, just absolutely destroying.
-2001 set two opener? I am doing the stanky leg.
-Leg unstanked; Oblivion does not do much for me. Trey getting a little funky late in the game but a segue is imminent
-Tweezer tweezer'd
-Scents oscillated between welcome break and dirty jam; much appreciated
-Got absolutely gross to Carini, a song that just fucks
-Moved my coffee table and actually danced across the room to Number Line
-You enjoyed myself
*they kept this going, and Weekapaug restored my faith by the end; I just love a dark Mike's jam and they were not interested in going there tonight **ayyyy

Pretty aggressively mid Phish set today, but I’m just happy it didn’t get canceled. Hot as fuck, tired as fuck, and a thunderstorm incoming. So the band played a 2 hour big set, mostly running through regular rotation tunes (w/ an Izabella bust-out which is only a mild bust out at this point). Simple > Golden Age saved it at the end tho and brought the heat. Golden Age especially was great.
Encore coming now!

So the band played a 2 hour big set, mostly running through regular rotation tunes (w/ an Izabella bust-out which is only a mild bust out at this point). Simple > Golden Age saved it at the end tho and brought the heat. Golden Age especially was great. Encore coming now! Got back home last night around 9pm which was a major win tho! All in all, Mondegreen was easily the best I've ever seen Phish play (shows 13-16, for me). Both in terms of peaks and just average quality of music. An absurdly fun weekend with pretty impeccable vibes - at least around my side of the campsite. Ran a 5k thru Dover Speedway, helped construct then demolish and stomp on a cardboard City Hall, ate 4 free scoops of Ben & Jerrys, made friends around my campsite, had my life saved by a massive order of drunken noodles before the secret set, broke 40,000 steps on 3 separate days, and amazingly have no back or knee pain this morning? Truly a miracle. Yeah Sunday could've ended on a higher note (peep the Phish.net score, it's shaping up to be a legendary stinker), but it was basically all gravy given the uncertainty of the forecast. Saturday was easily the best Phish show I've ever seen, the Friday jam was easily the best I've ever heard Phish sound, and being in the enclosed festival environment was every bit as immersive as I wanted - and fortunately, given the surprisingly high quality of the free showers, not as fragrantly immersive as I was fearing. Gonna listen through the music again over the next week or so, but initial thoughts are: 1.) "Secret" set; 2.) Saturday S2; 3.) Friday S2; 4.) Saturday S1; 5.) Thursday S2; 6.) Thursday S1; 7.) Friday S1; 8.) Sunday Song-based jam of the weekend: DWD > Tweezer Biggest peak: Fluffhead Biggest Trey stank face: First Tube (duh) Pleasant-est surprise: The return of Axilla (part I) Modest-est disappointment: The only two songs I really checked off my wishlist being Crosseyed and Timber. Lots of griping online already (and some in person, some even by me yesterday lol) at the lack of real bust-outs. So I'm sure they'll play Harpua at Dick's or something (see Icculus 2022) Best food: Camp stove Annie's Mac n Cheese for breakfast yesterday / the drunken noodles booth Number of $16 beers purchased: Three - hopefully Trey can still afford to feed his family after all this Would I attend another Phish fest: Yeah, probably lol

They do the first song of each set free on YouTube every night. It’s set break right now so the second set opener will be live in about a half hour.
Set one on paper looks decent but actually crushed. Full thoughts to come, but they opened with fucking CITIES and then proceeded to jam the next 4-5 songs in the first set - including a Theme From The Bottom jam that felt completely unique to the one I heard in STL.
I love this shit. I’m here with my cousin and uncle tonight; I asked my cousin what she thought so far and she said “it’s fine!” - she is currently reading a book during set break

Phish Show #3: 2024-08-29 Commerce City, CO - Dick's Sporting Goods Park
Man, the vibes at Dicks are just awesome. I legitimately can't wait to spend these next 3 days there. I went with family last night and we were all sharin' in the groove. I got myself all psyched out to really chill with the first set - it's a marathon, not a sprint! - and then they fucking opened with Cities followed by Down With Disease. A straight half-hour of power. The rip back into Cities, out of its jam, made me scream.
Ether Edge marked the first of several repeats from STL N1 - that night, it had the distinction of mopping brains off the floor after the 40min Tweezer. Last night, it glided through a decent Type-I jam before hitting one of my favorite peaks of the evening.
Theme From the Bottom, Ocelot, and Blaze On were also all repeats for me but GOLGI APPARATUS, hoooooly heck! Glowsticks galore! Am I hitting up a Dollar Tree today? I might be hitting up a Dollar Tree today!
Ghost dropped me right back in, to open set 2. Funky and plodding and fun, but often a tad directionless from my memory. But christ I just do not like A Wave of Hope and it goes on for an eternity. I am, however, a huge huge fan of Sigma Oasis and was almost embarrassed by how loud I woo'd when it started.
2001, Hood, SANTOS is a pretty sick way to end a show. Got some immediate redemption for missing the Hood closer on STL N2 so that felt great. I don't think I stopped dancing once from Sigma Oasis through the end of the show.
Tonight is bean night, I promise to be nice to nana if I find the board

The dicks weiner pales in comparison to competing Missouri venue cheap-encased-meatsticks. The hunt is on for a set break alternative. Had a nice lil bean dip appetizer.
Let’s go

Phish Show #4: 2024-08-30 Commerce City, CO - Dick's Sporting Goods Park
Christ alive I'm tired.
Did some Shakedown and shook it real down. Drank a lot of water. Drank some Twisted Teas. Limited my single-use-plastics to things I could inhale from. I rode solo last night (and will be tonight>tomorrow), and boy oh boy - my second favorite thing to do at a Phish concert (besides see Phish) is wander around and meet other people who are also at Phish. My third favorite thing is to eat at set break.
Got to cross so many songs off my list it was insane. Nice easy Back on the Train and Wolfman's Brother combo made me think "this is the first set I was expecting on Night 1" - then things got real fun with Guelah Papyrus (!) and No Men in No Man's Land, which always kinda sneaks up on me. Another one I'd never pick to hear, but the jam can be great...last night's got me a few times. I also unapologetically love Evolve, so glad to hear it a second time this summer. And called the Run Like an Antelope closer for set one and felt like a #head
Set break food - nachos. They kinda sucked. But I knew what I was getting myself into. The biggest "issue" was that they were catastrophically messy - just doused with cheese. On the right night, this is certainly more of a feature than a bug, but I need something more manageable in between sets. I wish the Dicks hot dog was better. Hot dog still GOAT in terms of value.
Set two got nuts! Something like a half-hour Chalk Dust Torture that got way, way outside (and prompted a few personal "is this still...?" moments) into a ludicrous Sand. When they hit Ruby Waves I remembered I had the ability to sit; I am on record as saying Ruby Waves does not scratch a huge Phish itch for me and that has not changed. I thought the jam was super nice last night. Just didn't really move me like anything else prior. It's a great, great song to sit down to.
Got nice and boppy to POSSSUMMMM and then laughed out loud and said "they're still going?" when they went into Everything's Right. It is kind of a funny thing when they play that song because usually in the moment everything is indeed right.
Fee through the megaphone, and a You Enjoy Myself that delighted the crowd - just an extremely positive, appreciative vibe through the whole encore.
Cousin saw Hozier at Fiddler's Green last night so she shuttled me to and fro' Dicks - enabling me to imbibe in the manner I chose. For that I am grateful.
Welp, I'm gonna have some coffee and maybe some pizza. Rub some icy hot on my knees, roll out the arches of my feet. Take a couple deep breaths and get back on the ride!
