I know it's the Tigers, but Kopech looks great so far.

I know it's the Tigers, but Kopech looks great so far. He's been changing speeds so well. Also:

It’s really fun to watch him. And to the point about not walking anybody, I love how unafraid he is of throwing strikes. Everything is in the zone or close.

And as I say that he starts to lose it a bit.

I'm glad Ricky let him pitch himself out of that jam.
That double to Avi would have been caught by most outfielders though. I really hope Eloy is better in RF. Haven't really heard much about his defense.

I guess he's actually not bad. He won't win any gold gloves, but he's serviceable.

Also are the Tigers going to do that thing where they lose almost every game in September and get the first pick again? It's going to be really hard to top the Royals.
The Sox pulled ahead of the Padres yesterday and now have the 4th worst record in MLB. I could see them eventually with the 6th pick.

That Andujar homer was one of the best sounding home runs I've ever heard. He reminds me of Jose Abreu in his rookie year.

Eloy's agents are talking about filing a grievance against the White Sox. I would not blame them for doing so.
I had no idea Bryant's grievance against the Cubs was still under review.

It sucks for Eloy but the Sox should absolutely be doing the same thing the Cubs did with Bryant. If he's a superstar in six years it's not like we'd have a chance at resigning him anyway, so might as well get that extra year of control.

For sure, I just hate to see bad blood brewing before a player even gets to the majors. I guess lots of time will pass in between now and when the White Sox & Eloy have to start negotiating over contracts.

They've handled it terribly - that "checking boxes" BS became a national meme. Pissing off a player that could be an excellent ambassador for this team over one season of control does more harm than good. They should call him up.

At least other teams have the excuse of not calling up players because they aren't on the 40 man roster. The White Sox don't have that excuse.

Nice to see that Luis Robert and Zack Burdi are going to be playing the AFL. I'm really excited for Burdi to basically be the closer on Opening Day.

Sox announced they won't be calling up Eloy. I'm pissed. Hahn handled this all terribly. Can't wait to see him try to walk back the "force the issue" and "checked boxes" excuses he previously used when he faces the media again.
Whatever. At least Ian Hamilton got a call-up.

I get both sides of it, but the fan in me wants to see Eloy come up. I guess we'll see him in May.
These last few weeks have been pretty exciting. I really like what the rotation has done, and Engel looks like he might be a major league piece after all. I'd like to see them trade either Palka or Davidson, I don't think they can co-exist on the same roster.

There's an argument to made that he needs to start getting MLB at bats, but at this point they've waited so long that they might as well see this through. I agree with Scoots that Hahn handled this poorly, and could have certainly used a better choice of words.

I understand how this all works. What I've been saying all along is that Hahn and Getz have made this whole situation a whole lot more messy than it had any business being. Fans have a right to be pissed when an exciting player gets passed up in favor of a guy like Ryan Cordell because we're looking ahead to the owner being too cheap to sign him.

Xavier Cedeno to the Brewers. By my count that's the 4th White Sox/Brewers trade in the last year or so (Swarzak, Saladino, Soria, Cedeno).

Fans have a right to be pissed when an exciting player gets passed up in favor of a guy like Ryan Cordell because we're looking ahead to the owner being too cheap to sign him. But these same fans won't be pissed once that last year of control happens.
A shitload of Cubs fans were pissed when they didn't call up Bryant. But in November 2020 at the start of the last year of his contract, approximately 0 Cubs fans will say "I wish Kris Bryant was a free agent so we could have seen 80 at bats in April 2015".
I agree that Hahn has explained the decision terribly, but I don't think that is grounds for calling up Eloy.

Brewers also picked up Gio. They certainly love former White Sox pitchers.

Also I don't even think keeping him in AAA is all that egregious anyway. He's only had about 120 games above high-A, and he's only 21. Same age as college juniors who just got drafted. Also his BB% would be solidly below average for a major leaguer.

Genuine question: when is the last time a terrible team called up an elite prospect without manipulating service time to gain an extra year of control?
