Haven't heard a player ever talk bad about Joe or the way he manages. If they're behind him that's all that really matters to me. Too many good, smart players on that Cubs team for them too back him as strongly as they do. And yeah, tweets point about them winning is a good one. 4 straight 90+ win seasons, 4 straight playoff appearances, 3 NLCS appearances, and a WS title. How do you fire that success?
People just expected a dynasty and they're not getting it so they point fingers like somethings wrong. They were insane expectations after they won in year 2.
Joe's job is to prepare the players' minds for 162+ games and that happened. That's how you win 90+ games every year.
Chilis job was to prepare the players mindset at the plate and the approach this year fell way short of expectations hence his firing.

It's telling that despite all the success they have not extended him. You don't let a guy you're committed to manage as a lame duck.

Well, if they were hoping for Girardi, they may be a year too late.

Best landing spot for Girardi was St. Louis, and they just reupped their manager for some reason. I don't think Girardi goes anywhere that's not his idea of a perfect situation. I bet he'll still be available.

Yeah but that's generally not how extensions work. At least in MLB.

I think any fanbase complaining about hitting/pitching coaches is dumb. It's silly to pretend that we know what to blame them for and what to give them two out of two sea lions for. Does Chili Davis get credit for Baez's MVP year? For Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber rebounding? Why? Do we know what specific adjustments he suggested? Is Chili Davis the only reason a guy like Willson Contreras had a worse year? Is he the reason why a guy like Addison Russell fails to develop at the plate? Why? Do we know which specific adjustments he suggested that made them worse? A lot of hitters have said that a hitting coach will preach the same message with multiple guys and it only clicks for a couple. Or that a hitter will hear the same message from multiple hitting coaches over the course of a career, and it's seemingly arbitrary when the message clicks for that hitter. In conclusion, Cubs fans should focus on the fact that Joe Maddon is a putz. So, why the snarky domestic abuse comment? Because the Cubs have a pattern of enabling domestic abusers and should be made fun of for it at every opportunity. But I think we're missing the forest for the trees here, as the umbrella concern for Cubs fans should be Joe Maddon being a putz.

Rosenthal had a piece for The Athletic about Maddon:
The Cubs’ inconsistent offense proved their undoing — they scored just two runs in 22 innings playing at home in the NL Central tiebreaker and wild-card game. But another issue down the stretch was the bullpen, even though the Cubs finished the regular season with a league-best 3.35 bullpen ERA. The absences of injured right-handers Brandon Morrow and Pedro Strop contributed to other relievers wearing down, and Maddon might have indirectly contributed to the losses of both pitchers.
Epstein, without directly accusing Maddon of overusing Morrow, cited a third straight appearance in the 14th inning of a 7-1 victory on June 2 as the root of a bone bruise in the closer’s right elbow. It was rare for Epstein to single out such an event as potentially determinative. Maddon responded by saying there was no way to know how Morrow got hurt while acknowledging the pitcher had a lengthy injury history.
Strop became the replacement closer, and an ill-fated decision by Maddon to allow him to bat on Sept. 13 resulted in the pitcher suffering a strained left hamstring and remaining sidelined until the wild-card game. Maddon obviously could not anticipate the possibility of an injury, but Strop already had pitched 1 2/3 innings against the Nationals, and the Cubs had seven of their 14 relievers available in a game they won, 4-3, in 10 innings.
That wasn’t all.
Off the field, Maddon invited public criticism with his initial refusal to read the blog by Melisa Reidy-Russell accusing her former husband, Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, of domestic violence. Maddon, who said at the time he was waiting for the investigation to “play its course,” later relented and read Reidy’s account.
Each of those episodes, and any others, might have been forgotten if the Cubs had played deeper into October. But Maddon alone was not responsible for what proved to be a disappointing season.

Just watched the replay of the would be Altuve home run/fan interference call, and I gotta say I think West got it wrong. Betts is afforded no protection when he reaches over the wall like that, it should have been a home run.

I really hope Milwaukee can come back against the Dodgers somehow. I really don't have any interest in an LA vs Boston WS.

I'd be rooting for the Sox but it's just a very *shrug guy* ending for me

Another positive of Red Sox vs. Dodgers: first time two non-white managers have faced each other in the World Series
