Looks like they might have gotten Carlos Santana too. It'd be great if the Sox could flip a meh prospect for him. If the White Sox are willing to take on the full contract I"m guessing that's all it would take. Between Abreu and Palka I'm not sure he's really a good fit though. I'm firmly in the "Daniel Palka is bad" camp, so I think he'd fit nicely as a 4th OF/backup 1B/DH in 2019.

Sox already tendered an offer to Abreu, so Santana makes no sense.

There are so many better options out there.

There are so many better options out there. I'd rather have Nelson Cruz, but I just don't think the Sox are gonna get him. Carlos Santana was astoundingly bad in April last year but had a really nice season after that. Only a 2-year contract too.

Corbin to the Nats on a six-year deal.

Supposedly above the 6/126 Darvish got last year. He did well.
Edit: Apparently 6/140, albeit with deferrals.

Goldschmidt to the Cardinals for Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young and a draft pick.

One of those teams makes no sense.
It’s the Phillies

If Bryce turned down $300M from the Nats, there's zero chance he's joining the Pale Hose.

I’d be surprised if he does end up here, but there’s a reason the Sox are showing up in these rumors.

I’d definitely be surprised, but I don’t think the amount of money for the contract rules him out. It’s more that he’d be joining a 62 win team.
And again, the Nats offer included zero opt outs, so he clearly wasn’t going to sign that contract.

They made a pitch, and presumably an offer, but they haven't been the top bidder in a situation like this since they signed Albert Belle in 1997. I just don't see Jerry signing off on 350/10 or whatever it's going to take.

Personally I think the only reason they are even being considered is the money they are offering.

I don’t think the White Sox have been actively in the mix for any marquee free agents since Belle, which is sad. This is kind of a new thibg. Dude loves Chicago and if they offer him opt outs at 3 and 6 years he might sign.

They're like 3 players and a year or two away and the AL Central is looking like butt for the forseeable future

Harold Baines and Lee Smith elected to the Hall.
Baines'election has definitely lowered the standards for induction.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yea Harold Baines is great and all - happy for him and for Sox fans, but......wtf?
Played 22 seasons, never led the league in a single category other than slugging - once, was a compiler of good not great seasons but didn't even get the traditional counting metrics, only received MVP votes four times and never finished higher than 9th, no notable postseason heroics, and NEVER posted a rWAR higher than 4.3!!! And his second highest total was 3.4! For reference, 57 hitters across the MLB put up a 3.5 WAR or higher last season. His career WAR numbers compare closest to Adam Wainwright and Josh Donaldson, among active players. Neither of them seem particularly close and they even have MVPs or multiple top 3 Cy Young finishes to bolster their resumes. Not to mention all the other seemingly better Hall of Very Good players that get ignored. Are they all about to get in as well or is this just a personal favor to Baines? I really don't know. This is truly astonishing and feels like either a.) the old boys club, b.) traditional stats guys flipping the bird to SABR people, or c.) both.
Harold seems like a great guy, and I know this doesn't really matter, but it's just such a weird, seemingly indefensible pick. That said, it does give me hope that Kenny Lofton - he of nearly twice as much WAR as Baines in 5 fewer seasons - will get his due from the Veterans Committee one day.

A ton of people involved with his career had votes tonight, I also think he's a good HOF nominee and had an incredibly consistent career. Hopefully this paves the way for more DH dominant players to make the Hall.

Baines is basically the Jim Kaat of hitters. Well, I guess there is a backlog of about 40 outfielder/DHs for the Hall now.

Baines should probably not be a HOFer, but there's a long list of guys who are in Cooperstown who probably shouldn't be. Good for him, and I'm glad he's alive to enjoy it.

Apparently the Yankees won't give Machado 300 mil and Jon Morosi predicted the Sox would sign him. My hopes are officially up.

Machado seems to be a better fit if he's willing to play 3rd. I don't think it's worth it to sign Bryce for what it's going to take.

Yankees have dropped out of the Harper sweepstakes. Looks like it's pretty much down to the Phillies and White Sox since the Dodgers seem more involved with the Machado talks (and they'd have to clear some room in the outfield).

I'm still amazed at how much he torpedoed his own stock while in the WS.
