If torpedo’ing a stock leads to me getting paid 275 million, hell, I’ll nuke mine

I mean, that's $75 million less than what he was initially rumored to get, but you do you.

White Sox traded for Ivan Nova. They're sending Pittsburgh a "young pitcher" and some international bonus pool money.

I guess Nova slots into the role James Shields filled last year. Veteran innings eater with mediocre performance.

Better upside than Shields, obviously - could work out nicely.

I like that move a good amount.

It's fine, we needed someone to eat innings this year since Kopech will be out with TJ. Right now the rotation looks like Rodon, Lopez, Nova, Gioloto, and Covey I guess? So I'd like to see them add at least one more starter, if not two.

I think Hahn mentioned going after a couple starters, so I don't think they're considering using Covey in the rotation. My guess is he's a long relief guy going forward, and he could probably thrive in that role.

McCutchen to the Phillies. Hmmmmm 3/50, seems like a bit of an overpay for a player in decline. Phillies said they were going to be a little stupid though, so at least they were true to their word.

McCutchen is actually how I envisioned the Sox going this offseason. He's still a pretty good player although far from his peak - almost a 3 win player last year.

I saw that too - isn't Collins supposed to be close to ready?

He'll start the season at AAA apparently. He might make sense transitioning to first base if this is Abreu's last season with the team.

It's crazy that the Sox are even in these discussions.

coincidentally, i've been in vegas for a couple days and strolled over to mandalay just to see what was happening. nothing special. but i did walk by harold reynolds and edgar martinez chatting, and then ken rosenthal and joe maddon at the same spot like 5 minutes later.

Lance Lynn to the Rangers, 3/30. Glad to see the frozen offseason of 2017-2018 was just an aberration.

White Sox are rumored on a ton of players, and it's going to be so depressing when the highlight of the offseason is signing Adam Jones for some reason.

Let’s build up some hopes just so they can be crashed down: Jim Bowden is so gd awful. I can't believe he's employed by The Athletic.

It sounds like it's either going to be one of the franchise players, or stop gaps on 1-2 year deals. They are not going to realistically contend next year, no matter who they sign.

FTR I'm still refusing to get my hopes up for either Harper or Machado.

This feels like that offseason when the Bulls were rumored to sign everyone and failed miserably.
And I disagree that they can't contend next year - the AL Central is a dumpster fire.

I think the Indians are still a 90 win team. Unless they sign multiple guys to help them win now, I don't think a 28 win improvement is possible.

They're losing a ton of key contributors and basically feasted off a terrible AL Central to get to their win total last season. I don't think they're a guarantee to get back to 90 wins. If they sign Grandal (or a decent catcher), a good outfielder, a coupe of relievers and another starter I think they could easily surprise in that division.

I've been a Cleveland fan my whole life, and these last 3-4 years have been thrilling, but....something about this offseason feels different. There seems to be an amount of complacency among the organization / fans in regards to the ease of the Central. I wouldn't be surprised if we stumble out of the gate and allow a resurgent team like the Sox an opportunity. All bets are off after 2019, of course - I have no idea what Cleveland's roster'll look like by then. But a big offseason from the Sox could put them in the right place at the right time this season. (And for the record, I hope it's y'all, been a casual Sox fan since getting to the...uhh...Cell is so easy from Hyde Park)
