The Moustakas craze was confusing to me because the dude never gets on base and just isn't very good.

Wow. Moose gets 1 year at 6.5M
How many times can Boras cost his client millions before players start dropping him?

I don’t think I have sympathy for either of them

It should be noted that CarGo is also a Boras client.

Surprised other non contending teams didn’t jump at these price points. At minimum they’re players that will be playing inspired and can be used as trade chips. And if don’t play well, you didn’t break the bank

Once it comes down to a one-year deal I don't think it's all that surprising that both decided to stay with the franchises they've been with for their entire careers.

Staying with a team where you're comfortable for one year after long term deals didn't materialize and then testing the market again next year. Yup, crazy.

I don't know about Moose, but it seems crazy that nobody else was willing to offer CarGo something similar to a 5-year deal.

I think he was actually the worst position player in baseball last season.

The truth, unfortunately, has been worse. As we sit here today, Gonzalez has posted a .278 wOBA / 50 wRC+ for the season. His wOBA is ninth-worst among qualified players; his wRC+ is second-worst. The only qualified position player who has been worse by wRC+ is Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar, who is at least able to couple good defense and baserunning to bring himself back up to replacement level. Gonzalez has done no such thing. By WAR, he has been the worst player in the majors, qualified or not, and it isn’t remotely closewww.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-collapse-of-carlos-gonzalez/It's nuts how far he dropped off last season.

Jesus I had no idea. Nevermind then.
I admittedly didn't pay much attention to the Rockies last year, but from buzz and whatnot I thought he was still good.

I figured an AL team would take a flier on him as a DH. He might bounce back a bit, and I think he actually did better over the course of the last month of the season, but his defense has become pretty abysmal. I'm guessing the Rockies plan on a platoon situation with him coming back.

I think the comp pick killed Moose. A lot of the teams that would be interested at the right strike price weren't going to give up a pick.
But for the bargain basement DH shopper there's still Holliday and Joey Bats out there!

But for the bargain basement DH shopper there's still Holliday and Joey Bats out there! Well also the luxury tax and not many competitive teams in need of a 3B. He was just a free agent a year too late.

Bargain bin shopping continues! Lucroy to the A's on a one year deal, no word on the dollars yet.

Bargain bin shopping continues! Lucroy to the A's on a one year deal, no word on the dollars yet. This deal is also supposedly $6.5M. Seems to be the magic number. Also, apparently both Moose and CarGo turned down 3/45 deals (CarGo got his offer last year though), and Lucroy turned down a 3/21 offer from the Rockies.

Meanwhile Giolito had 8 strikeouts in less than 5 innings against the Cubs today.

Sounds like Jake is going to the Phillies, curious to see how much he ends up getting.

Even if it's for a high AAV he's gonna end up with way less money than the Cubs had offered.
Scott Boras got his ass kicked this off-season and I love it.
