I'm going to miss Verlander, but at least now he is going to have a chance to finally win a World Series.

Surprised that Upton isn't going with Verlander considering they're engaged
Oh you meant JUSTIN Upton
Biggest surprise of all this was I was sure the Tigers had won a ring sometime since Verlander joined the team whenever ago. Guess not.

I've got a lot of friends, and a bit of myself, that hoped he'd be a lifer for the Tigers, but I really can't blame him.

so you would say you blame him for being traded because he ok'd the no trade clause? that doesn't count.
you can only blame someone if they choose to leave themselves imo.

Alright, I think we're seizing on blame as a stronger word than I meant.
Also, apparently, the Cubs were his first choice but they couldn't find a middle ground. Not surprising, considering how they're focusing on prospects.

Houston w/ Keuchel and Verlander in a playoff series is going to be fun.

Also weird that the Rangers couldn't pull the trigger on that Miguel Gonzalez deal before he made his start yesterday. Also also weird: the AL Wild Card race.

I actually started thinking Theo might pull this one off when the news first broke that Verlander didn't ok the Houston trade. The Tigers had to get something done last night once they said it was a full rebuild. Verlander's price would definitely be lower in the offseason and its a big roll of the dice if they waited until next years trade deadline.
I'm guessing Detroit wanted the Cubs to take on the full contract plus a youngster from the MLB roster or future draft picks. Both of which the Cubs need now and for their future. Not surprised there wasn't middle ground.

I totally buy the idea that the Cubs picked up Leonys Martin yesterday because Almora was tentatively in the Verlander deal. But that package the Tigers got back was better than what the Cubs could have offered unless Theo took all the money or included Happ.

Sox just released Holland. Figured we'd be stuck with another month of terrible Holland starts, but I do hope the guy can sign on with a playoff bound team and just be a lefty specialist (although that hasn't worked out when Renteria has used him in relief).
In better news, Moncada is back!

Also another guy is about to make his debut. Jace Fry - he's only given up 2 HRs over 102 innings in the minors, so let's hope that translates to the big leagues.

Crazy that none of the other teams competing for the 1st pick are purposely trying to tank. The Phillies were projected to be competitive this season.

How about Carson Fulmer outpiching Bumgarner?

I initially didn't put much into the performance since the Giants are basically fielding a AAA roster. But then I remembered that Carson Fulmer was getting lit up at AAA all year so I am optimistic about him now.

His delivery is still wonky, so I don't think he'll be much more than a reliever, but he looked good today. He hit 93-95 routinely and located his pitches pretty well outside of the first inning.

By no means have I given up on the Cubs but this weekend was extremely hard to watch. Can't say I am surprised. The conditions were ripe for that beatdown after playing 20 days in a row against an inspired brewers team that lined up their pitchers for the series.
Bet the Cardinals are really wishing they didn't sell and added on some pieces.
