If they're really dead set on getting a guy like Machado, this is the method they'll need to use to get him on the team. The Sox unfortunately are not going to be an attractive FA destination until 2019 at this rate, which means otherwise missing out on the big glut of free agents next year. This is one of the reasons they built up depth.

irt the Machado trade possibility, WSCR reported this morning that any team that acquires Machado would NOT be getting permission to work on an extension. That should (I assume) remove the White Sox from the trading table, right?

Not necessarily - they could still flip him to the Yankees if the Orioles are truly not even open to discussions with them. |

I assume this refers to a scenario mentioned in Ken Rosenthal's article where the team trading for him would have a 72 hour window to negotiate an extension and if it doesn't happen the trade falls through. I haven't read anything that says the ChiSox are only willing to make a deal with something like this in place. I also feel like a deal with this in place would be a lot different than what is being reported since a top tier player on a long term deal is much different than a top tier player that may only be a 1 year rental |

That reduces the return. I don't see Kopech being in play, then.
Also I would assume most decent management teams have feelers out there to see whether a guy like Machado would entertain an extension even without this negotiating window.

Looks like Edgar has a real shot too, which is awesome to see. Such an incredible hitter.
Also not surprising but still quite stupid that Omar Vizquel has so many more votes than Rolen or Andruw Jones.

It's probably more likely that he was carrying groceries or his kid tackled him when he got injured because that's how baseball players get injured nowadays, but still sucks.
