Brutal. Love it. Yeah this is excellent as expected. Somehow very different from the debut yet very familar And I'm just seeing the artwork now- is that Effingham, IL? Can't imagine where else a giant ass cross like that is

Wretched would have been rock hard if there was a Chat Pile album repping Central IL

By any chance, is that Effingham?
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read the rest of the responses.

Every year a record captures my heart by leaning full-on into the Spiritual Jazz idiom, and this year's winner is Linda Sikhakhane's iLodi. The playing here is powerful, gentle, beautiful - a direct descendant of the School of Coltrane. RIYL: Coltrane, recent records by Isaiah Collier, Nduduzo Makhathini, etc.

Man this album still rules. I still remember hearing it for the first time after my older brother bought it and thinking that it was so heavy that I shouldn't be allowed to listen to it.

This somehow exceeds the lofty expectations. Sounds even better in the autumn proper

This is probably the SotY. For any Girls fans who tuned out the last decade or so of Christopher Owens' career, this will bring you back:

(Shower Curtain - words from a wishing well)
This came out on Friday as well, a nice jolt of shoegazey alt rock. Looks like they have a short tour coming up playing most of the majors including KC so I may check them out.

It doesn't slap like their first two but it's a fun slice of nostalgia, and got me hankering for some Celebration Rock tonight. Dunno how these would play out spliced between their earlier stuff so maybe they saw that too and that's why they aren't working it. Either way it's decent and I can see myself revisiting it from time to time.

Today's emo-adjacent pick of the week is Hey, Ily's new album, Hey, I Loathe You!
(I should be more consistent with this ...lol)

This one was pretty interesting too, have been seeing them getting a bit of hype online. Not sure how to describe it, Perfume Genius guests on one track and fits pretty well with the rest of the album
