I have a weird soft spot for theater bootlegs but I don’t know why. It just feels so forbidden and I’m very much a rule follower.

Yeah the musical numbers were not particularly spectacular. The material probably would have worked better as a play. That would have allowed a little more room to explore some of its themes.
It was the touring production, so no Ben Platt, but the lead actor was great. It is a pretty demanding role in a variety of ways.
It seems popular with the kids, lots of teens at the performance we were at. Maybe that is driving some of the hype?

Girlfriend and I went to see a local production of Cabaret this weekend - a friend of ours was in it. We didn't know anything about the story, only that it was set during the war and Fosse wrote it. Good show, though the ending was a downer.

Yeah, that's the big one. The entire story and even set design are very teen oriented as well.

I'm thinking of getting my parents some theater tickets for Christmas. We've purchased them Hamilton and Christmas Carol tickets in the past. It's basically a good gift combined with the benefit of it gets them out of the burbs for a day. Any recommendations based on what's currently playing? I'm going to do some research myself, but I have no idea what's even playing in Chicago right now.

Looks like Chicago is at the Cadillac Palace in May, if that's their thing. The touring cast I saw a few years ago was pretty tremendous.

ive avoided spoilers and any of the songs up until now so i can go in blind.

Does anyone have any advice on Hamilton tickets? I know they're not a hot property anymore, but I need to buy five of them for March and if there are any tricks to it, I'd be grateful to know.

When we went they had only been open a couple months so it was super difficult and we landed on some good tickets on eBay for not a ton of money. I would really recommend the balcony. If you’re on the main floor but not at the front your view is obstructed of the whole top segment of the stage. If you select tickets that are in the right or left side of the balcony as the ones you’re searching for you’re way more likely to get them. These are “obstructed view” but anything that happens on the upper part of either side of the stage is mirrored on the other. You miss 0 plot as a part of this. Beyond that there aren’t a ton of tricks beyond standard ticket buying advice which you know.

It seems like no shows other than some of the midweek matinees are sold out (I imagine from schools? *shrugs*) in March. I woulda been shocked if it was still selling out every show this many years in.

I'm talking more discounts/ good pricing My tip i guess would be to watch the video of the original broadway show on the public library website than take everyone to Alinea for less than 5 face price balcony tickets.

I'm talking more discounts/ good pricing The side “obstructed view” is typically cheaper but beyond that best of luck finding affordable Hamilton tix

Hi friends update here, I saved $100 in fees by buying at the box office! We are sitting in the center of the mezzanine about midway back, I think it should be okay. I didn't realize that theater was so small, it only seats 1800 or so? I think that's where I saw Book of Mormon when it came through.

I was maybe 5th row from the absolute back on the far left side of the mezzanine when I went. Center mezz is absolutely the way to go. Sounds like it’ll be a great time!

I really got a lot out of sitting high enough up to see what was happening on the stage itself, so I definitely endorse these seats.

I'm mostly just excited to take my niece to her first big theatre production, I remember coming to Chicago to see the Phantom of the Opera when I was her age and it felt like such a big deal.

Ended up going with The Christmas Carol at Goodman as a gift for my parents. Show is this afternoon, and they've been sending me photos all day. They seem genuinely giddy. It's cute.

It was just announced that Hamilton is returning to Denver Aug 2020 and I'm already anxious about acquiring tickets.
