i got tix for hamilton in august in okc. so that's neat. cheap seats ($76) far up in the balcony, but that's fine.

The staging is easily the best part of the show and the balcony will be great to take it all in. Have fun!

Balcony is the best place to be if you’re not in the center of the first 10 rows or so on the floor

pricing was wack for this - my $76 seat is the row behind the $125 seats. i think top tix were $350-ish? i mean i get it because it's the hottest show right now, but we don't get a lot of these top broadway shows stop through okc, even though the theater is nice and fully capable of handling big productions.
and the girl who's touring as eliza is a grad of the university i work at so that's cool.

I'm taking my wife to a performance of King John at the Boulder Shakespeare Festival on Sunday. It's turned into a fun birthday tradition. Kind of great having the mountains as a backdrop.

So this was fun as hell. We were second row stage right. The cast and crew were operating the way they would have when this play was first introduced - 20 hours of rehearsal instead of the standard 130 or so, and each cast member only received their lines and not the full script. Some pretty incredible performances, too.

I finally saw Hamilton a few weeks ago when I was in Chicago. I was kinda skeptical going in because of the insane amount of hype but I ended up absolutely loving it. Glad I went in fresh, not having heard any of the songs before except My Shot. But now I’m one of those people who can’t stop listening to the soundtrack, someone help.

Forgot to mention: I saw Beetlejuice on Broadway last week, and, readers, I *strongly* recommend it. Great book, spectacular production design, great performances, fun-enough songs, cheap (for Broadway) prices. First act is stronger than the second, but what can ya do.
Hoping to take in some more *sErIoUs* theater before I leave the city, but this was a great first Broadway show for Jack.

I would gladly attend Hamilton so long as someone paid me.

oh man. i've been entering the hamilton $10 lottery every day the last few weeks to upgrade my $76 balcony seats. i haven't won but today got a code for last-minute releases and snagged a pair of 8th row center for $45 each ($375 face value). super stoked!

Just found out that there's an opera based on The Shining and Colorado Opera will be staging a production of it next season.

Finally saw Hamilton last night thanks to the in-laws. I didn't know any of the songs besides maybe the first two going in, but I really loved it.
I was skeptical of the potential lameness of it all, but everyone was just so talented and it was such a fun spectacle. I'd like to go again once I read up on the actual history since quite a bit of stuff went over my head.

Kind of a fit for this thread, I saw the movie of the one-woman play that Fleabag is based on. It's quite a bit darker than the series.

Disney is releasing a film version of Hamilton that's going to be a stage recording of the original cast in October 2021

I bought a ticket for Come From Away (touring version) for here on Sunday because I heard it was great and it sounds like the nice type of uplifting story I could use right now
I want to see more plays. I probably should keep up with local/smaller productions a little more

Hi friends, just some nerdy theater thoughts: The National Theatre is running some dope plays on their youtube every week, until tomorrow it's Benedict Cumberbatch in Frankenstein, next week is Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo in Antony and Cleopatra, coming up on May 21 is Gillian Anderson in A Streetcar Named Desire, lots of good stuff. This week I have been lowkey obsessed with an old favorite, the 1992 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls featuring a babby Nathan Lane, J.K. Simmons in a small but memorable role, and a Tony award winning performance by Faith Prince as Miss Adelaide. The soundtrack is on Spotify and you can find some of the performances on youtube. Also this past week in things that are delightful were the performances from Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday which can be found in its entirety on youtube but two of the best are below for your enjoyment.

No, he's Benny Southstreet!
Nice lil clip of him singing "The Oldest Established" in a Tigers cap in this cast recording special, around 20:55
and his facial reactions in this clip from the Tonys that year are pretty choice:
like I said, the rabbit hole got deep

G&D was one of my favorite shows we did in high school. It was a big bummer that I’m tone deaf and couldn’t get actual parts in musicals.

I really wanted our school to do Guys and Dolls but there were notably not enough dudes to fill the roles required

What is your favorite show that you did? Was it very fun?

My sophomore year we did The Sound of Music which is maybe my favorite show ever, so that stands out. My senior year show was selections from multiple musicals all performed back to back and it was really fun. My bff and I used to sing The Confrontation from Les Mis at each other all the time and it was cool that was got to do it on stage too (major theater kid energy)
It was extremely rewarding and a good number of the friendships I made during that time I still maintain. Every Friday night during quarantine I’ve had a zoom call with a bunch of those friends and it’s been keeping me sane.
