I've been digging into the video library on Nugs and there's 50ish Dead & Co shows, including my first and only (Alpine July 10, 2016, went with BR, we left early). Man it is a glum-ass dirge of a show. There's some other fun stuff on there though, a hilarious Steely Dan doc that me and my mans watch all the time, an excellent Sonic Youth show from the Daydream Nation revival tour, a couple of King Gizz shows, a Tangerine Dream show from '92 I haven't gotten to yet. Best $50 I've spent recently for sure.

Insane post incoming! Percolating an idea today for a Dead project - and I wanna gauge your interest level. Dead Jam Bracket - where we gather a group of Heads together ( Tweet, thebosma alady goodson krentist chvrchbarrel + some irl friends, feel free to invite yours too) and vote on a bracket of, say, 32 of the best Dead jams. We could break it down so there’s two matchups a day, to make it a manageable listening amount. And maybe even have a prediction contest where the winner gets some kind of Dead-related prize? This was inspired by this ridiculous 2021 Goose bracket challenge I’m participating in. Bracket would be hosted on a similar polling website. And then we could have a group chat somewhere w/ all the participants for updates / discussion. I'd also host results announcement / random trivia threads there too. Could also be a Board Project thread here in addition. Who's in? Could be a really fun way to dig back into the catalogue! |

I already made a big list of potential jams to include in the bracket - it's already got close to 4 dozen entries. So either it could be culled down to 32, or made into a larger 48-sized bracket. Don't want to go up to 64 b/c I think that size is a little too daunting to induce participation.

And here's a playlist w/ as many of the my choices as I could find on Spotify. Feel free to test the waters a bit or also suggest some stuff that I'm missing. Right now I have the list down to a tight 40 choices. Gonna seed 1 and 2 based on expected popularity / historical consensus, then have a round of 8 play-in matchups to face those seeds. After that we have a 32-song bracket, single-elimination. Ya hooooo!

So far today I've assigned broke the field into four regions, assigned seeds, and determined the play-in matchups. Tomorrow I'm gonna create the actual bracket - and hopefully by Monday it'll be ready for y'all to start entering your predictions!
Regions will be the following: 1.) Nightfall of Diamonds Region 2.) Cowboy Neal Region 3.) Heart of Gold Band Region 4.) Northbound Train Region
Winner gets a TBD fan-made Dead shirt and some assorted stickers and pins!

Wtf this has taken all afternoon It's not unpleasant or anything but dang Nah you're good! My time guesstimate was just based on ripping through it making gut-level decisions. I prolly took closer to an hour to finish mine up. Which was prolly expediated by listening to the songs throughout the week while I was drawing up the project. |
