I know this isn't the point but saying "Where John Mayer stood in for Jerry Garcia" as if Jerry plans on returning sometime soon is funny as fuck

All of 76 is good for chill sets. 6/9/76 is a good one if my memory serves me well (entirely possible it doesn’t)

Anybody watch the Truckin' Up To Buffalo livestream last night? The Touch of Grey was one of the most wholesome Dead videos I've ever watched - would extremely recommend.
Also, I made this yesterday. Basically a compilation of, IMO, great studio cuts that either a.) never worked their way into regular live rotation, or b.) were staples but have super unique recordings or are lesser known because they showed up on a solo album. Tried to represent every album but I skipped Shakedown Street b/c I'm not a fan of any of its deeper cuts, Built To Last b/c I haven't listened to it more than once, and Bob's solo stuff post-Ace.

Update: Not as tasty as I would've hoped but opening with Jack Straw is A+. I also threw "Sugaree" and "Tennessee Jed" on my big Dead playlist

Have spun this one 3-4 times over the last week, in advance of the new 36FTV. Solid but not spectacular patch of shows for the first half, but absolutely takes off around "Truckin," culminating in a classic Dark Star > Morning Dew. Listening to 7/17/89 Alpine Valley right now - and this "Row Jimmy" feels like an all-timer on first listen.

every time I open this thread, it blows me away when I remember that Jerry Garcia died at age 53 -- if he had just taken better care of himself and his diabetes, it is possible he still would be alive.

He also probably could have done without the thousands a day in opium as well

I don't know how I haven't realized this before, but it is bananas that Trey is older now than Jerry ever was

Spending my afternoon with 10/03/80 at Warfield Theater. A friend recommended it after I told him I was in the market for a good Brokedown version.

First ten songs are an excellent acoustic set - I especially loved I've Been All Around This World, Jack-a-Roe, and Ripple. Just started the second set a few minutes ago.

Time for DP8! Finished up my first listen this morning, and I can see why this is such a highly regarded DP. A fantastic acoustic set (my highlights were Rider by itself, Dire Wolf, and Candyman>Cumberland), then a wild TOO>CE, and closing out with prolly the best Dancing and Viola Lees I've ever heard (with another stellar Morning Dew in the middle). I'll be spending a lot of time with this one this week.

I just listened to DP8 the other night. TOO>CE is the highlight of the set. Even Good Lovin' (not typically my thing) really does it for me here.
If you like folk-y/country/Workingman's Dead at all, this acoustic set is a must listen.

Checked out 04/22/78 today after seeing David Lemieux tweet about it this morning - turns out it was a Dave's Picks a few years back. And holy fuck - my thought are summarized below: But more seriously - tho I'm still a relatively "new" Deadhead, I'm coming to the conclusion that 1978 is my absolute favorite year. They had built a full catalogue of classics, and were absolutely powerful throughout the year. I'm not sure if this knocks off the 1/22 show from Oregon that I was obsessed with last month, but it's close. The first three songs are blazing, Jack Straw and Peggy-O are perfect (78 was the best Jack Straw year, IMO), and both Deal and especially Wharf Rat were so good that they elicited out-loud "holy shit" 's from me. Not a bad cut on this entire show, really.
