Went to Grateful Shred on saturday night. Wasn't as interesting as JRAD but I preferred it to DSO. Their gimmick I guess it having three guitarists which didn't add THAT much, but they had really great harmonies and the bassist was really fantastic (i guess he's johnathan wilson's bassist?) and they play 72 era dead style despite playing a relatively varied greatest hits kind of setlist which is my favorite era.
Really great live liquid light show too. Worth checking out when they are in yr town.

two other notes:
1. Extremely disturbing how much merch they were selling for a cover band/the price and complexity of said merch. Dead fans are the easiest marks in the world.
2. There was definitely a hipster quotient but it was relatively small. Dead cover band market is still mostly empty nest parents, middle management 35 year olds, old hippies, and white and latinx people with dreadlocks.

After being a fan of the band for quite a while I really have figured out that 85-91 is my favorite era of the band, with a definite peak in 89.

‘91 set from the box set is out on streaming. Sounds damn good too. Excited for this to actually show up at my apartment but knowing dead.net it’s gonna be a minute

This showed up today at long last and I'm listening to 7/12/87 now. It's fucking sick, big fan. Let's see if we can convince E the avid dead hater to watch the 91 blu ray tonight.

Been really loving this one lately. Easily my favorite Brent Mydland show - his playing, vocal harmonies, and leads are all beautiful. Plus Branford Marsalis sits on starting on "Bird Song" and pops up throughout the rest of the set.
