Trying to catch a flight to Rome via London tomorrow night from Houston.
Going to either be in the nick of time or very sadly out of luck.

I went to Portland, OR over the weekend to visit a good friend. Very cool city. can't wait to go back. Spent the first day hiking around and checking out the sites. Tasted some Sours for the first time ever at Cascade Barrel House...they were good, but not sure if that's my kind of thing or not. Ate some amazing things at the city block of food trucks off of Washington street. Beers and grub at Fathead's was excellent. Day two, we hiked up to the summit of Mt. Defiance. It was one of the hardest hikes I have ever done, but the views up top were absolutely incredible. It was supposed to be a weekend trip, but during my layover my flight was cancelled and I was stranded in Vegas for two nights. It was kind of cool, kind of a bummer. I ended up winning $50, though.
Next stop: Riot Fest!!

I've been through it, but never stopped. I'd like to get out to that area again. The New England states are wonderful to visit.

Spending a Monday to Friday in San Diego for work the week after next (September 18). I think the name of the neighborhood of our Airbnb is South Park. Any particular recommendations? I've never been. Pretty sure I'm going to try to see Fleet Foxes the Thursday night of the trip

I think Toronado and some breweries are walking distance to that neighborhood. Also Lucha Libre taco shop.

It's got a wrestling ring right in the middle of the place, too. Tacos were tasty, and it's smack dab in the middle of some great beer spots.

Yeah that's supposed to be the neighborhood in San Diego. I'll post some recommendations my friend who goes pretty often when I get home.
Still bummed I never spent a weekend there when I was in LA last summer.

Welp never mind, the spots I've mentioned are in North Park. I don't think I ventured through South Park too much.

Spending a Monday to Friday in San Diego for work the week after next (September 18). I think the name of the neighborhood of our Airbnb is South Park. Any particular recommendations? I've never been. Pretty sure I'm going to try to see Fleet Foxes the Thursday night of the trip Looks like you're right next to Balboa park which is fucking awesome and has roughly 100 things to do, including the zoo, which is expensive as fuck but totally worth it IMO. But seriously, wander around Balboa park until you find something you want to do. There are dozens of things available for cheap/free in the area, and it's generally really beautiful. Air and space museum is supposedly spectacular, though I've never been. The art museum is super cool, as is the museum of man and science center. These are all in one little plaza. SD is one of my favorite places. If you Uber to the other side of Balboa park, you will find yourself in Little Italy, which is full of some of the best food I've ever had. Nice for a quiet walk around at sunset too, since you get a really beautiful view of the ocean. Ballast point brewery is right over there, and if you start by ubering there, you can walk down to the waterfront park area, which has a lot of street performers and again, really good food/views. If you feel extra adventurous, go up to La Jolla and see the sea lions there. They smell like hell itself, but you can get super close to them. Closer to your side of SD, spend a night out on coronado island and get some gelato, pretty much all of it is good there. If you walk briskly and act like you belong, you can wander around the grounds of the hotel on the island that they say is haunted. Wear something moderately nice and pretend like you're walking to one of the dozens of retirement parties, and you can walk the whole beach there. I fucking love San Diego and I gained like 10 pounds the last time I went because I ate my weight in authentic mexican food and fresh caught sea food.

NOLA next month for a wedding. I've stayed in the French Quarter before and wouldn't mind doing it again I suppose but I'd prefer to be somewhere more...hip (fucking hate using that word) and less touristy/obnoxious, suggestions? also restaurants and bars are always welcome too. There's a lunch buffet place called Lil Dizzy's that's amazing. it has the best gumbo ive ever had plus the fried chicken is really really good. I keep recommending it to people and no one ever listens to me but its seriously the best. it closes around 2 every day though.
I've always stayed around the French Quarter because I'm a lame tourist or something. I stayed at this place one time, I really like the location of it, its close enough to a lot of stuff to walk but also not in the middle of everything so its pleasant and quiet- rbgh.com/ The kind of back part of the French quarter gets out of that stuff a little bit.
God damnit Lit. I'm here now. I went here because you seemed so passionate about it and complained no one listens to your recommendation. Well...this place fucking sucks and is the worst food I've had since I've been here. Thanks dude.

Cause New Orleans is awesome. You can drink in the street, and live music and good food are everywhere.
