I know it's the touristy thing to do, but we went to the Old Lahaina Luau our last night there, and it was fantastic. They did the roasted pig in the ground and all that good stuff.
Oh great, top of page

Speaking of Asheville reminds me of Denver but much smaller and more of like a town than a city. Really it doesn't except for the breweries. I'm having a good time but enjoyed Denver more.

Couldn't find any Too many breweries to go to instead. Honestly though one day was enough, I wouldn't mind going back again but I'd be okay if I never went back.

Leaving for Maui tomorrow. Any food recs? Just seeing this now. Lahaina Grill is great. Also, Sansei in Kapalua for sushi. Nick's Fishmarket in Wailea is really good, but definitely pricey. At the Fairmont.

We're actually staying in Wailea right now, so mayhaps a trip to Nick's is in the cards. My extremely generous sister bought my family this trip, and she got us a private villa at the Ho'olei at Grand Wailea.
Anyway, I'm loving it so far even though I've done nothing but hang out at the beach and the pool.

I probably already told you this but Church bar or Sister Louisa's or whatever it's called. Also Criminal Records/Little Five Points. Let's go to that Halloween parade.

Alright y'all, I need your Michigan recommendations. We're going up to Traverse City next week and are planning on stopping at a couple of places along the way and back. Mostly interested in food/drink, but certainly open to other items of interest as well. We'll also have time to go a little out of the way if there are places to hit that are not on the direct path.
Thanks!

Greenbush is on the way. Hit that up for sure, it's great.
Maybe get a burger at Redamak's in New Buffalo.

Do you have any particular route in mind? It's a little pokier, but taking 31 you can hit a bunch of cutesy little towns and Sleeping Bear Dunes. I would maybe do that one way, and through Grand Rapids the other way for more of a stop for lunch and a beer experience.

Traverse City is good times. I like The Little Fleet - it's a collection of food trucks that butts up to a bar. I don't know if they have seasonal hours or not, or if it would be enjoyable in colder weather, but they sometimes have some live music and it's a lively scene.
The tots at Bubba's are out of control...though I was a little hammered when eating them, so that could have swayed my judgment. Brew is nice for a quick brunch/breakfast Right Brain Brewery has some tasty beers (But I've never had the food there) The Franklin is a little pricey, the menu is seasonal, but I've been happy both times I've been there There was a place in the basement of the old asylum that was fantastic...Something with Stella in the name. We were treated to our meal there, and I don't think it was cheap.
Also, forgot to thank you a while back for your recommendation on Cruz Blanca in Chicago. It was very good.

Oh yeah! The asylum is pretty cool just to wander around the grounds. There's pics on my Insta if you want to see. There was a good gelato place there as well and the pizza place is supposed to be good. I think we only went to North Peak Brewing and it was okay, nothing amazing. If you want a pretty drive that's not terribly long, the lighthouse on Leelanau peninsula is a good destination.

I noticed that one route heads along the lake, so maybe we'll head up that way and come back through Grand Rapids. That sounds like a nice way to do it.

No one recommended going to Jolly Pumpkin up in Traverse City? Go there if you like sours and farmhouse ales.

Grand Rapids beer:
Founders: It's Founders. Tends to have about three dozen or so different beers, including a fair amount of taproom only stuff.
Brewery Vivant: Specializes in Belgian/French beers. The duck nachos are excellent. In an refurbished funeral home.
Gravel Bottom: East of town, but lowkey fantastic. Likes to spotlight local homebrewers, my father has had beer on tap here several times.
Creston Brewery: North of town, up and coming, excellent beer selection with a terrible menu design. Lots of good food here, free concerts on Sundays.
Grand Rapids Brewing Company: First/only(?) certified organic brewery in Michigan. Heart of downtown, full of local references, and a nice cross section of beers.
Harmony Brewing: Two locations, one (smaller, original) that specializes in pizza, the other in german/polish food. I just ate a one pound pretzel there a week ago, and I regret nothing.
Hopcat: The original location. Brews around 5 of their own beers, and then has ~40 other taps, focusing on Michigan beers. My favorite place to drink. Frequently has tap takeovers.
New Holland - The Knickerbocker: Absolutely giant GR location, has a cocktail lounge on the second floor, a curated food menu, and wide selection of their spirits and beers. Obviously, there is also the original taproom in Holland on your way along the coast.
Perrin Brewing - North, in Comstock Park. Made the best Bourbon Brown Session ale I've had. Likes to give unique styles a shot.
Rockford Brewing - Farther north, in Rockford. Just opened a kitchen, but relatively small and cozy. Just won 2017 Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year in the nation at the Great American Beer Festival. Frequently has free concerts upstairs.
Vandermill Cider Grand Rapids - Has a few beers, but a huge and excellent selection of ciders. Excellent, if pricey, kitchen.
That said, that list is by no means complete, and I feel like something new opens about every two months, so there are tons of options. Rumblings today that Jolly Pumpkin is going to open a location here, but that's a ways out yet.
In addition, to the south an hour is Kalamazoo, home to Bell's, Arcadia Ales, and several others.

We have a Jolly Pumpkin here now so I didn't include it. Up that way though, Short's is whatever but I've heard the food is great.
