I watched almost all of Pyscho on Saturday before falling asleep and not almost all of The Shining last night before falling asleep.
May watch Castle Freak tonight, it depends.

kind of taken aback by how little sense this made if you have Shudder, definitely watch the Last Drive In version with Joe Bob Briggs. he doesn't comment during the film but will do intermissions every 20 minutes or so and is a horror movie guru about how all these films got made and the absurd stories behind them. Demoni is basically a script that Argento and some friends half-assedly wrote and then handed off to one of the friend's kids who was just starting under Argento's wing as a new filmmaker. apparently it's also the film that caused Argento to admit that he's "not much for the whole plot thing."

IT was competently made by folks happy to ignore the strengths of the source material. Hereditary was impeccable in most regards and I also want to see the version of this movie with no Paimon.

29. Suspiria (1977)First time watch 4 me If I saw this when I was a kid I would've loved this but obviously there is still a ton to appreciate. I feel like alot of what is scary about this movie is just how LOUD it is. At no point was I hoping this movie would be 2 hours and 40 minutes.

That one gets even better with rewatches imo. I enjoyed it the first time but it's become one of my favorites.

By the end it almost won me over by how confidently it did away with any pretense of plotting.

Man, I remember wanting to see this so bad for so long, before the age of pirating or the itunes store. Never came across it on any TV channel, video store didn't have it, didn't have a credit card to order things online. I saw it in a store one day (B&N?) and immediately bought it just so I could see it. The memory I have of constantly looking for it is better than my memory of the actual film.

Suspiria also really pops on the big screen. Game changer

Suspiria also really pops on the big screen. Game changer I bet, but visually I feel like I understood it. I just feel like the middle hour stumbles around a bit (not in a bad way just not in a classic way!) without a whole lot to hold on to. The first 10 minutes are so disorienting and great that it almost does the next hour a disfavor despite some great moments of horror. I'm seeing the new one tomorrow I'm assuming its gonna be a bit boring but im strapping in...

30. BorderWas kind of waiting for this to real blast off and it never did. I didn't dislike it I just don't think it amounted to much. The tones all felt a little dispirate and I was kind of hoping it would choose one to hold on to but instead it just decided on melancholy. It's a solid movie tho and 3/4 of the way to a very good one.

Aw man for some reason my Prime video does not include Castle Freak despite it being listed as available via Prime...hmph. Finding that another way, and watching... 33. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1977)

Fun fact about Shudder... if you accidentally sign up for the yearly membership and then email support to ask to downgrade to the monthly membership they MIGHT offer you $20 off the yearly membership.

did your shudder already expire? oof I didn’t even check Shudder - I googled to see what streaming services it was on and Prime was all that came up, so I assumed ya’ll watched it there. It does help that I’m watching potentially the funniest horror movie of all time.

I'd seen a couple comments about how bad the ending was. It was definitely tonally out of sync, very rushed and talky, and didn't add much to the movie overall. But for some reason the giant from Twin Peaks saying "You're not real. You're only made of moonlight" gave me the strongest literal chills I've had in a long time so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯!

From what I understand of the criticism, alot of it stems from existing criticism of the ending of the book. It's definitely out of sync but I kind of liked it for it and agree that the element you think worked well as fantastic and could of very easily not been.

I definitely don't think it's a "bad ending" in the sense that it invalidates or undermines the good stuff that came before. It's just sort of like, ok, guess we're shifting gears hard here.

ITS FREAK NIGHT! Before the main event, its time for a first-time viewing of an OG 34. Freaks (1932)
"They did not ask to be brought into the world, but into the world they came." What a relic.

Lots of inspired stuff here, but also felt rambly. I'll let this one sit with me some more. This was #30. One to go!

35. Castle Freak (1995)
No film has captured the lifestyle of a castle freak as well as Castle Freak. This reeks of direct-to-video (which I know it was) and its fun and nostalgic that way.

31, Suspiria (2018)I did it I made 31! This was often very good but extremely unjustifiably long! Would have the same overlong effect at 30 minutes shorter. I very much enjoyed it tho. I feel like I shouldn't talk about it any more til people see it.

I should probably watch the original first, yeah? The gf had never seen the first and still really liked it but the whole thing definitely feels much like a 'response' than a 'remake' so I'd definitely say you should watch the original first. you'd be missing out/slightly confused on a few of the elements of the movie without a reference point.

What should be my finale tonight? Freaks, Bride of Frankenstein, Tetsuo or Vampyr are contenders.
