Another music legend who passed away last week: Herbie Flowers, longtime session bassist and the composer/performer of one of the most iconic basslines of all time:

Sergio Mendes, bossa nova legend, also passed away last week. Forgot to post it here. Spin some Brasil 66 today! Was it a suicide/murder pact with Grant Hart?

Drummer Roli Mosimann, who was born in Switzerland, but moved to NYC, died today from lung cancer at age 68.
He played with the Swans and produced other acts, but I saw him in the late 1980's at Cabaret Metro in the band, Wiseblood, his duo with J G Thirwell, who may be more famous under the name, Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel. Lydia Lunch opened the show with her poetry.

JD Souther, who I just realized was never an official member of the Eagles. Wrote a bunch of their late 70s hits (Heartache Tonight, Best of My Love, New Kid in Town).

he and Karla Bonoff played (I think, separate sets, before they played together at the end) the park west around the end of the 1980's, beginning of the 1990's.
I think that they were planning to tour together again this year, before the news of his death.

An absolute champion. I love his story supporting Sinead at that one award ceremony. Glad I went to see him a few years ago to hear some of his incredible songs in person.

5 shows I saw Kristofferson at: Farm aid 1 in Champaign-Urbana, welcome home in Landover, Maryland, farm aid in indianapolis, farm aid in Irving, Texas, farm aid in Ames, Iowa.
In Iowa, he was part of the Highwaymen. Because he had to leave early, he was not part of the Highwaymen in Champaign (he played earlier on that day), so Glen Campbell took his part in that set.
5 great songs from his first album that aren't Me and Bobby McGee: Sunday Morning Coming Down, Blame it on the Stones, To Beat the Devil, Duvalier's Dream, Casey's Last Ride.

I’ll never forget one of the first times I went to Vegas with my wife, must have been around 2005. We were walking through the huge mall that is attached to Caesars mainly to get out of the heat. We were getting near the exit, I see a guy just sitting all by himself outside a baseball card store to sign autographs, no one bugging him. Sure enough it was Pete Rose.
Went back 5 or 6 years later, walking around Mandalay Bay, it was Pete Rose just sitting outside another store waiting to sign autographs again. At least he had a change of scenery

When I was in third grade, all I wanted for my birthday was Dikembe Mutombo cards. I got so many. One of my favorite non-Bulls ever…absolutely loved him. It’s always a bonus when they end up being top tier people.

I had a Dikembe Mutumbo Nuggets jersey when I was like 9-10. Got my only ever technical foul in 5th grade for doing the finger wag at a kid after I blocked them. My grandpa loved it.
RIP to truly one of the best.

Also I met an obnoxious guy who bragged about having a baseball signed by Pete Rose with "Sorry I bet on baseball" written on it - he was convinced it was worth an insane amount of money. I pulled up the website where Rose was selling baseballs with his autograph and the same inscription and wrecked the guy's evening. That was a fun night.
