"The menu was stripped down, and construction equipment has Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out a book by Noel, Greg Hall — privately — for years had said the brewpub needed to close or be remodeled."

Goose announced a special beer, “Last Call” the commemorate the event and held a ticketed farewell dinner, but for a city that loves to talk about restaurants of the past (it’s a lot like baseball fans who like to “remember some guys’’), Goose’s place in history seems forgotten.
ashok...ok?

I'm not much of a beer drinker anymore but should you find yourself in Bangor, Nocturnem Draft Haus is honestly delightful and has an unexpectedly terrific draft list. Mostly Maine breweries, but I also had a Pliny and almost ordered a Utopias (which I haven't seen at a bar ever, that I can remember). $30 for 1.5 oz deterred me just enough. Great food too - housemade sausages were wonderful.

Interesting time for him to randomly reference a 25 year old article from a LA newspaper that compared that area of Chicago to Gaza.

Ravinia Music Festival, a not-for-profit music venue, targeting a small brewery and putting them on the verge of going out of business.

Ravinia Brewing's goal is to coexist with all of the Ravinia neighborhood residents, Ravinia Business District businesses, and the multitude of businesses that include the Ravinia name; including Ravinia Festival, Ravinia Antiques, Ravinia Speakeasy, Ravinia Closets, Ravinia Plumbing, Ravinia Nursery School, Ravinia Green Country Club, Ravinia Neighborhood Association, Ravinia Elementary School, among others. We have absolutely no desire and frankly limited funds for a protracted lawsuit like this.
what the fuck??

It’s pretty ridiculous. I encountered the firm representing the festival in a past life and was not impressed. Taking that posture as a non-profit is embarrassing.

yeah seems really weird that the brewery is being targeted for the name while those other businesses exist.
unless the gofundme isn't sharing some key info
i haven't been to the spot by Maplewood in a hot minute, but food was decent and beer isn't bad. Would be shitty of 2/3 of the brewer's triangle closed within a year

Outside of what is included in the GoFundMe the lawsuit argues that the brewery has had live music, created a music themed beer called "Key Strokes" with a classical piano, and had social media posts on the festival grounds.
The difference between the brewery and the other "Ravinia" businesses is that the brewery is probably the biggest having expanded to Chicago.

i mean there might be something to this, seems like there's a line being crossed between 'using the name' and 'attempting to profit off the ravinia brand' but also at a certain point i'm unclear on what the difference really is
edit: what i quoted is from the ravinia wikipedia page

disappointing
in other news, anyone possibly hitting up the Half Acre Daisy Cutter 15th bday or Maplewood 10th bday in a couple weeks (6/15)?

The Firestone Walker-Half Acre collab Pilsner, Trailing West, is fantastic. If you see it on tap, get it.

My favorite brewery here in Houston, Saint Arnold, is having their 30th anniversary celebrations this weekend and I'm going to a tasting Sunday where they are busting out a ton of rare stuff they've had cellared, including some old time favorites of mine they haven't made in years. I'm pumped
Most excited for the actual 30th anniversary beer, it's their imperial stout (already good) aged in whiskey and bourbon barrels for 2 to 4 years then blended, then aged again across Port, Madeira, and Tokaji barrels, then blended again. Really curious how the fortified wine barrels affect it.
