Feels bad to follow up their work of art, but this one’s for sleeping. I don’t know much about you except you’re a hipster who lives under the sea. Luckily, hipsters are funny. Here’s a list of music your hipster pallet can ironically enjoy. Atmosphere - Joy Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths Rock the Casbah - The Clash In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel Lua - Bright Eyes FloriDada - Animal Collective Optimistic - Radiohead On and On and On - Wilco Like Dylan in the Movies - Belle & Sebastian Such Great Heights - Iron & Wine

This is for monasterymonochrome! Everybody on this list was born in in April, and there are two added catches: 1. I already promised mine would be listenable; and 2. Each artist on the list is an absolute fool! A certifiable idiot in some way or another. Enjoy!

Just perused this thread for the first time this month and am impressed - y'all killed it with the theme this month <3 As for my playlist - this month's goes out to @timbo It's not a historical deep-dive like my last few, but is something that I've still been thinking of putting together for a few months now. Basically, the inspiration was going to a James Acaster stand-up show last year. Before the show he played one of the cuts here, "Euroleague," on repeat at least 5-6 times. Please, if you're an NBA fan, you have to hear this. As a Cavs fan I was in tears laughing by the end of it. That got me thinking about songs that make me laugh. But not, like, from comedy bands like Weird Al, Tenacious D, or Lonely Island - but rather songs that cleverly slip punchlines, absurdist tales, or anything like that into their structure. Ya know, songs that have actually made me laugh out loud while listening - but not for like, pretentious reasons. So here we go! Note that this playlist is bookended by Paul Williams' dual ballads telling the heartbreaking tale of a Cleveland basketball legend, Anthony Bennett. Todd Snider also makes two appearances here, because - c'mon - this guy makes these kind of songs for a living. Otherwise, it's a hodgepodge of genres and jokes - and you like it and maybe even makes you laugh once or twice! finally got around to this. It was fun. Humor and music don't usually go well together imo, but there was some clever stuff. Not a big fan of the more country tracks, but they didn't bother me as much. What I did really like was the flow of the mix. the random breather of The Fall was a nice touch. Thanks!

So I wasn't sure where to drop this, but here seemed to be the most natural place. As you may know from a few of my posts in the Albums You Listened To Today thread, I recently read through Simon Reynolds' excellent overview of post-punk, Rip It Up And Start Again. And - as you may also know - I looove thoroughly listening along to the music books I read. This time, however, I may have gotten a little out of hand. Any time Reynolds detailed or mentioned a group or artist, I made a note - and made sure to listen to them either then or soon-after. Then I compiled a master google doc of all the artists I heard during the 2-3 or so weeks of reading, and - when it was all said and done - pulled together one giant-ass playlist from nearly all of them.
So here I leave for y'all: Rip It Up: A Post-Punk Resource. It's a 300-song behemoth, and has some seriously incredible music on it, IMO. It ranges all over the place in terms of genre - from classic post-punk to mutant funk and disco, to proto-industrial / noise to jangle-pop to straight-up avant garde. It's fuckin' awesome, and I've had it shuffling while I work basically every day for the past week. So...if you were ever curious about any of those bands - this could be a cool sampler to check 'em out! Or, if you're just bored and want something random to listen to - just throw this on shuffle. Either way, I hope y'all find something you enjoy here - it was super fun to put together (and will be a suuuper useful tool if I go back into college radio next year...stay tuned...)

Excellent post monastery and thank you - this thread should definitely be used for any and all playlist exchanges!
We'll take April off from our round-table thing and pick it back up in May with fresh #matchups.

I'll admit, this slipped my mind!
Would you guys like to take 2 weeks to make a playlist this month, to be shared by June 1?
Or pick this back up in June, creating playlists to be shared by July 1?

I think it'd be fun to make short-ish playlists for July 1st of our favorite songs from the 1st half of 2019. Good way to catch up on releases.

My only worry with the idea is that we end up with a lot of the same songs being shared - would sort of have to commit to the "things you might've missed" theme

The cool thing about a best of 2019 so far is that they wouldn't have to be for a specific boarder - each person could post their own.
I am up for whatever is decided. I really enjoy playlisting.

That's actually not a bad idea. The personalization of the playlist to each specific boarder is a part of the stress, so why not eliminate it for our comeback month

I vote for posting our personal best of playlists for the first half of the year for July 1 - if we're going to go more involved than that, I'll need to probably step back for a month because my June is going to be nothing but chaos.

Are we settled on a theme for this? Best of 2019 so far due on July 1st? I'd assume no need to assign boarders to each other for this.

I know this kind of died off but I wanted to share a playlist I made a long time ago (6 years ago!) for a friend and I who share the same birthday in case you're bored and need some music to listen to that is mindless at best. It's summer themed!

Actually I meant to post yesterday and just plain forgot
I would really like to get the wheels back on this bus, I know we discussed posting "best of the year so far" playlists. Let's do that over the course of the next week to get some tuneage going.

I started a giant playlist of my favorite 2-3 tracks from the albums I've liked this year. But it's a little too unwieldy to post here - unless y'all wanna giant dump of like 200 songs. So I went through it and plucked out all the tracks that I'd put in my serious SOTY contention, if it was list season already. That came out to about 38 tracks, and then I added two to bump it up to 40. They're currently ordered without any ranking - just chronologically from when I first heard each song's respective album. Enjoy!

i tried to make mine slightly more concise - i've also spent the last several weeks exclusively listening to 90s music so this is a jumble.
huh thats weird its only showing up as a link

Here’s mine. I kept it to an hour, also one song per artist - otherwise it’d just be half Carly and half Tyler.
