I think the last time I was at Schuba's was for a John Vanderslice show. Whatever happened to that dude? the mountain goats/john vanderslice vinyl EP is one of the best things I own. "lucifer rising" is a killer song

Got a reservation for opening night of Gideon Sweet on Friday, the new Graham Elliot/Matthias Merges collabo. Not big on going places the first night/week they're open but I'm taking out someone I want to impress and I guess I have faith in those two to not totally botch it. Hope the menu is good.

Anyone been to Bundoo Khan on Devon? My cab driver recommended it and said its the best Pakistani food he's had outside of Pakistan.

No but now I want to.
Guys where's a good place to take my dad's cousin for dinner? She's fiftyish and staying at McCormick Place, "doesn't do trains or uber" and is kind of a salt of the earth type from Milwaukee but I don't want to just take her to a dive.

The bar at hugos is always a go to for out of town salt of the earth family because its upscale but casually priced and bar-y (separate menu from steak and fish main menu where everything is $15-20 and very old school accessible) and they have a $6 cocktail and $1 oysters until 6 or 7 and is essentially downtown. Alternatively, there is definitely a south loop Lou Malnattis.
I woulda suggested Hackney's but i think it is dead. if you want accessible but nicer/slightly more adventurous The Gage is basically upscale bar food and a $6 cab from the south loop.

Oh also she'll have a car so maybe places with easy parking? Honestly not sure if I'll be able to get her in a cab. Also a place that serves Miller Lite would be good.

Berghoff? Miller's Pub?
Who doesn't take cabs that is the weirdest take I've ever heard.

if they're from milwaukee the city then that's pretty surprising, but if they're from a small town in wisconsin then it's not surprising at all.

I like the Miller's Pub idea. Wildfire or Petterino's may be good LEYE choices if you are looking for something nicer but not trendy.

We're doing a breakfast potluck next week before the holiday. Several of us are bringing waffle irons.

2! a japaleno stuffed with ground turkey, cream cheese, seasonings, etc, topped with cheese and breading, then fried. ...then wrapped in turkey bacon and roasted! because fuck your health.
and then cranberries mixed with chipotle peppers, lemon juice, sugar, yadda yadda.
