Happy return of the volcano menu/laca sauce day everyone. Tasted just how I remembered. Fantastic.

Cochon somehow exceeded expectations. Maybe not the best idea to get a giant plate of meat before walking around in 100+ degree heat/humidity, but zero regrets. Other highlights from the trip were Luke and Herbsaint. Overall a really phenomenal food trip.

But 100 degree heat tempers that feeling.

Coda Di Volpe's tomato sauce is not good but everything I had that didn't have it (the octopus, the mortadella and pistachio pizza, and the focaccia) was very very good. I would go back but unless the lack of flavor in the sauce was an aberration I would avoid the red pies or meatball app.

i brought a turkey & provolone sandwich on bread that i baked last night I baked some bread yesterday too, and I'll probably have the same thing, but with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and mustard (one benefit of working from home is I can dress up my sandwiches with no fear of them getting soggy).

we went to galit last night with my parents. they are in the midst of an extensive roadtrip and this was their loop back through chicago on the way home. two of the previous three nights, they'd had dinner at a perkins and ruby tuesday in the middle of nowhere. so galit was a very welcomed several steps up for them. the hummus and tahini there are still A+ and i don't think there was anything less than a tick above average on our table.
when my parents stopped here earlier on their trip, we went to il milanese and they raved about it and wouldn't rank galit above it, even though my partner and i thought galit was so obviously better.
