Never heard that, but I can't imagine they'd turn it down.

Had Elske on Sunday and Owen & Engine last night. Both for the first time and both were absolutely incredible! Sad I waited this long to try O&E and they close forever tonight. The rumor that was floating around seemed to be that Bixi, will have some of the staples on their menu so that’s a plus!

I hope you had the burger at Owen & Engine. That burger is/was one of my favorites in the city.

We got the burger, scotch egg, pretzel and the spagettio’s. Absolutely killer all the way around! Probably my second favorite burger in the city (I for whatever reason have a soft spot for Table Donkey Sticks burg even though it doesn’t make many lists). Still need to try Warlord’s which I hear is bonkers!

Yeah, I wasn’t too impressed by Mott St when we went last year. It’s a decent burger, nothing mind blowing and the rest of the things we ordered was just fair. Still haven’t been to Second Generation, but probably similar.

I liked the Owen & Engine burger all right, do not care for the Mott burger.

I've always thought the O&E burger and the Mott St burger are both overrated. They're good, but I wouldn't rate either top 10 in the city.

Here's the list of restaurants in Denver the received a Bib Gourmand designation:
AJ’s Pit Bar-B-Q (Barbecue; 2180 S Delaware St.) Ash’Kara (Israeli cuisine; 2005 W 33rd Ave.) The Ginger Pig (Chinese cuisine; 4262 Lowell Blvd.) Glo Noodle House (Ramen; 4450 W 38th Ave. #130) Hop Alley (Chinese cuisine; 3500 Larimer St.) La Diabla Pozole y Mezcal (Mexican cuisine; 2233 Larimer St.) Mister Oso (Latin American cuisine; 3163 Larimer St.) Tavernetta (Italian; 1889 16th St Mall)

If I had to guess Fruition, Frasca and maybe The Wolf's Tailor would be the Boulder/Denver spots that could earn a star. Here's the spots that earned 1-star in Colorado. I got two right! Beckon (Denver, contemporary cuisine): “The multicourse contemporary tasting menu rotates quarterly (think harvest-themed in the fall). This kitchen offers far from typical dishes. Seared quail breast with a confit leg is spot on, especially when sided by creamed kale made with sunflower seeds and a quail reduction.” Bosq (Aspen, contemporary cuisine): “The menu format allows diners to customize their own tasting of four or more courses. From hand-picked spruce tips to butter from locally sourced cooperative dairy cows, this is a concept that pays attention to details.” Brutø (Denver, Mexican/contemporary cuisine): “The menu, which is Mexican at its core, has a clear narrative, and is perhaps best displayed in lamb prepared two ways — as a street-style taco and ground lamb leg kushiyaki with a quenelle of mole chichilo.” Frasca Food and Wine (Boulder, Italian cuisine): “You’ll find pasta and seafood on the prix fixe and tasting menus, but Slavic and Alpine elements also appear. Focused and distinct, the menu might showcase a lesser-known part of Italy, but the ingredients are clearly Coloradan.” The Wolf’s Tailor (Denver, contemporary cuisine): “Although the menu shifts throughout the year to explore different themes, diners will find a common thread in cooking that highlights ingredients while displaying technical precision and harmonious flavors, with fermentation a frequent motif.”

I did the omakase at Uchi Austin last night, and it was good, maybe not great? I had a very different idea of the place going in - I thought it would be more chill but it was super loud and rowdy, like screeching sorority girl rowdy. I sat at the bar and could barely hear the sushi chef explaining each dish. The food was good but maybe not mindblowing, it was all very prettily plated though and all of the fish was just beautiful. My favorite was maybe the wagyu carpaccio which was unexpected as I don't really a rat's ass about wagyu.
Not so for the guy sitting next to me though, he was a Wagyu Guy on the level of John Mayer. I always wonder what service folks think about that kind of guy who spends the whole meal telling them how much he knows about every ingredient. We got to chatting a little bit after the chef gave us a dish to share because he saw us both eyeing it when it came out. Turns out the guy was also in town for Pearl Jam, as was the table behind us, as was a good 15% of my flight here yesterday, as was the couple I met at breakfast this morning....PJ fans thick on the ground here.
Another friend in town for the show reached out to me to meet up but neither of us could do Sunday night as we both had dinner reservations. We were both pretty shocked to see each other at Uchi lol, should have planned a bit better!

I have been dreaming about this coffee I had in Austin at my hotel. Did some light googling and thought I'd figured it out as some random San Antonio roaster, then thought I'd text the hotel to confirm (busy morning here lol). It was fucking La Colombe lol*
*which is only a lol because that's what I used to drink daily when I used to live near a La Colombe, but apparently I thought I had discovered some kind of amazing Texan specialty coffee lol*
*so many lols

Made a pork loin roast last night for the first time. Used the reverse sear method and made it on the stovetop in a dutch oven, loosely following a recipe from Serious Eats. Used fresh sage and rosemary from the garden. Paired it with some roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Turned out really good.
