Had a rough night so I had to go in on some Xoco today. I don't know how I'm going to make it until 11 when my order is ready...

It's national fried chicken day so I'm going to use that as an excuse to finally try Ms T's Southern Fried Chicken tonight. This was just ok and I don't think I would get it again. Harolds and The Roost are much better

After my son and I spent a miserably hot day at what passes for an amusement park in Denver, we went to Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs and had reindeer hot dogs. They were so good. Easily the best part of the day.

Making homemade pasta sauce is so much fun, easy, and better than anything I've ever bought at a store.

^^^True story.
I made bacon-wrapped chicken breasts on Saturday; those turned out decent, not amazing.
Also made a coconut cream pie for dessert yesterday since we had a dinner guest. This recipe included shredded coconut in the Nilla Wafer crust and the custard filling. And, of course, toasted coconut as a garnish over the whipped cream topping. Quite excellent.

that chicken looked yummy. i got some oxtail from the farmers market in WP and braised it in spices and onion/fennel/carrot in the oven. plus some garlic cheesy mashed potatoes to boot. made enough for 2 and seemed to please both parties so yay

I keep reading about banh mi places opening up in Denver, and now I want one for lunch. None of these spots are near me, though.

Happy to report that I successfully dodged the 'trying the fermented horse milk' bullet while in Mongolia
Now I just hope that I won't eat mutton again for the rest of my life (didn't like that meat or even lamp prior to that trip, but now that I had to eat some daily, I dislike it even more fiercely)

I came to the conclusion that what I most like in nice restaurants are the appetizers and the desserts, so Im starting to skip the main course to have more of these instead.
Same price (if not cheaper) and a greater range of yummy bites in the end

A new Japanese place called Raisu is having their soft opening on Irving Park and Sacramento. It's super good and you get 15% off this week so I recommend it to anyone in the area.

forgot to mention we did duseks on saturday before kaleo. it was national oyster day after all.
6 different kinds of oysters each, seasoned mussels, goat cheese raviolo, vension tartare, and a whole plate of duck breast, confit duck leg, duck sausage, gooseberries, potatoes, and foie gras.
to die for.

Sounds amazing. I still somehow haven't had a real meal at Dusek's despite being in Pilsen every day for years. Only beer and charcuterie.

A few weekends ago I made Chicken Marsala for the first time. Ate the last of it today. Turned out excellent, though maybe next time I'll up the sauce quantity because I had it with linguine.
I also discovered that I don't like Marsala wine on its own.

jesus. that scorched tundra burger (chicharrones, roasted jalapeno, pork belly, stout bbq sauce, habanero mayo) at all kumas this month is phenomenal. also if you got the burger, all scorched tundra beers (pipeworks ipa) are $5 all night.
so we got fucking toasty and full for very reasonable prices.
also got free shwag and met the fest organizer and talked about booking metal festivals. very cool dude. very lovely night.

I'm surprised you've never met Alexi before but I guess you never really hung out at Local Option that much... There were times when I would see that guy more than a lot of my close friends haha.

that looks stupid.
Schubas is one of the few venues that actually has a nice low key non stupidly trendy or cookie cutter vibe to it RIP

lol it's not affecting the venue part.

man ever since Justin's closed down Schubas was basically the only place that isn't/wasn't constantly swamped with yuppies/the worst of the big ten fraternity alumni row in the Southport area on a week night (Toons is cool but the clientele is 100% yuppies)
a wine bar and a stupid ass faux-longman and eagle menu is just gonna make the whole bar shite

THE SCHUBAS BAR WILL STILL BE THERE
And if I had to put money on it, probably won't change.
