In my experience the crowd at Schuba's has always been pretty chill It's the only reason for me to ever go to Southport

"Kerney wants to cultivate regulars who will dine at Tied House two or three times a week."
Who would do that

man ever since Justin's closed down Schubas was basically the only place that isn't/wasn't constantly swamped with yuppies/the worst of the big ten fraternity alumni row in the Southport area on a week night (Toons is cool but the clientele is 100% yuppies) a wine bar and a stupid ass faux-longman and eagle menu is just gonna make the whole bar shite Lange's would like a word with you.

Lange's works when in the area for sure.
Newport used to be ok because nobody was ever there and it was cheap but it closed probably for those reasons

It looks kind of generic but we'll see. Teeks you think our meal tickets will still work??
Also if anyone has coffee or lunch suggestions in the middle of the loop lmk. I tried Lavazza today and it was pretty gross.

I would suggest Loncheria in Block 37, but it looks like closed.

I was wandering around the Loop before a meeting looking for coffee and it was that or a thousand different Dunkin Donuts

I like Rom because they brew La Colombe and Intelligentsia is good but there aren't many of them. Is Dollop okay? I think it's Metropolis there.

the coffee at dollop isn't great but its the cheapest in the area for its quality and they have the best chocolate chip cookie

That is relevant to my interests.

yeah i got free gourmet bullshit coffee at work but I'd still occasionally go to Dollop to snag a cookie and a significantly better than La Colombe but still not great $3 20 oz cold brew

I only ever drink decaf Americanos (iced or hot, depending on the season) and I am not in the habit of paying for them

I feel like the Intelligentsias I've been to around Chicago have all been good and friendly and reasonably priced. However, the Abbot-Kinney Intelligentsia was the first coffee shop I stopped at in LA; my espresso was like $7 and there wasn't a single outlet to charge my phone. I figured it was just LA cost-of-living bullshit but the next coffee shop I went to was like $3.50 so what the hell Intelligentsia.

I like Intelligentsia, but going into the Randolph location is like being on set for a Lumineers music video shoot. Everyone wearing vests and fedoras.

Yeah there's a lotta look at that Intelligentsia.
I had good coffee in LA, Blue Bottle of course but Woodcat was also good. Chango was kinda gross.

Just made me think of this - a friend of mine asked for a good coffee spot to work at near where he was staying in Denver, and I told him about this place called Crema that I've enjoyed the one or two times I've been in there. At the time apparently they were really anti-work from home folks and wouldn't give out their wifi password and all available outlets were on the ceiling.

I've only ever been to that Intelligentsia twice cuz I do like the Rom in my building. Can't say I stuck around long enough to notice the dress code.

It's normally the spot I go to when I'm working in the Loop - or at least used to go to before we switched offices.

I'm sure it'd be frustrating in the moment, but I kind of applaud the dedication.

It was not; we went to several coffee shops across the city, though - Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Santa Monica, Downtown, Little Tokyo, Beverly Hills - and that Intelligentsia was by far the priciest. It could've been the area, but I had brunch at Gjelina and ice cream at Salt & Straw and neither of those, although boughie, were egregiously overpriced.
