green street meats for my final lunch with the coworkers.
1/2 lbs of pork belly and 1/2 lbs of ribs, plus baked beans. could barely finish it but everything was great
also probably had a couple too many pints for still being on the clock, but what are they gonna do, fire me?

Finally was able to check out Steingold's. It was really good but too expensive to go regularly, which is what I was hoping for. Not too many great food options on that stretch of Irving so the addition is very nice regardless.

Apparently they don't start weekend service at all until the weekend of the 23rd? www.steingoldsdeli.com/Edit: IRT Alady, they do. Now that I see they aren't open for weekend service at all until the 23rd I think that was probably a bullshit excuse to be closed on the weekend initially.

That is real weird but thanks. I could have sworn a friend of mine Instagrammed from there on the weekend but now I'm not so sure.

I got a new (to me) brand of skyr at Whole Foods yesterday - Icelandic Provisions. Probably available pretty widely at Whole Foods, but I just never tend to shop there. I prefer it to Siggi's if that's your thing. There's a strawberry w/ ligonberry variety that is A+.

Ooh that's good to know though I generally don't do sweetened versions.
The big cartons of Siggi's are $4.99 this week at Whole Foods.

I went opening week and they were a disaster. I got their last bagel at like 1 PM and it wasn't even especially busy and I had to remind them what came with it.. I would imagine they decided not to be open weekends until they figured that all out. I know some people who went and had alot of complaints about missed orders etc. The bagel and lox was fine but too expensive and the very good bagel overpowered the meager portion of Lox and the too whipped cream cheese. I went back this week and had the pastrami rueben and it was a very good deal ($9 for a big sandwich, bag of quality chips and a pickle is good) and pretty good if possibly a little too heavy even for a pastrami sandwich. Almost seemed as if the bread was aggressively buttered despite certainly not needing it.

Their bagel and lox reminded me of a slightly worse version of Cafe Lacuna's in Pilsen. Still really good, but all of the publicity over Steingold's got my hopes up too high.

Harvest menu at Elizabeth next to teeks and his lady 😀 omg I am stuffed. Loved the bao, the smoked beet, and the bread course (of course.) There were a few misses and I'm bummed we didn't get a printed menu, is that new? Also liked that they now offer a mixed beverage pairing but there was no way that was gonna happen on a Tuesday.

Great to see you too! That was too funny.
We loved the smoked beets, sauerkraut and the mitaki mushroom plate. For Stranger Things they emailed me a menu after the fact, so maybe we'll get that?
Oh, and I loved all the desserts, too. Chantrelle ice cream shaped like an orchid and buttermilk ice cream sandwich were aces.

Oh our ice cream was shaped like a honeycomb! The first bite of that was so weird - sweet then super earthy and it oddly made us both feel sad. But subsequent bites were delicious.
The somm mentioned that we would get emailed menus. I hope that's not their new normal.

I agree. I definitely felt that way about the Stranger Things menu. I had to rack my brain to figure out which plates were which. I may actually have to take notes for the next one.

I made a batch of green chili last night, and it's probably the best of the many variations of this recipe that I've ever done. Tweaked my recipe a bit more this time - added more tomatillos and subbed a beer for some of the water I was supposed to use, among other things. Anyway, it'll be my breakfast and dinner today.

I'd be interested to get that recipe and interested to make it if it ever stops being a million degrees here.

Yeah I'd be happy to send it over. I made it in a slow cooker, too - super easy.
