Guessed right on the weekend for the NYC Marathon, so I'm really glad I booked a hotel when I did. Now the tricky part of actually getting a spot in the race.
Goal right now is two more marathons before I turn 40:
-Fall 2021: NYC is preferred, but other options are Philadelphia, Minneapolis or Portland. -Spring 2022: Going all in for the Big Sur International Marathon.
Started running again and hopefully I'll have more of an idea what the fall race will be in a couple months. I'm trying not to get my hopes up for NYC, but that's the one I have my heart set on.

Started Noom one week ago and already down 8.5 lbs! The program seems to be clicking with me. Very excited to continue the journey.

Started Noom one week ago and already down 8.5 lbs! The program seems to be clicking with me. Very excited to continue the journey. Awesome, man. It was incredible for me. I was down 15 pounds in the first two weeks. I'm now down over 90 and haven't really been focusing on losing weight. I'm just trying to keep up with maintaining good habits. I ran intervals for 7.25 miles this morning before my first class. I'm wearing a size 28 in the skinniest jeans that Rag & Bone makes, and I can wear them at my waist. I haven't worn jeans at my waist for god knows how many years because I was too fat and it looked terrible. Tip: if you don't use one, use a food scale and weigh everything. That's what I started doing in the spring when we went into lockdown and I had to start cooking everything for myself. It really helps. A coworker of mine who lost 50 pounds on Noom but then gained back 7 went out and bought a food scale after I told him how helpful it was, and the weight came right back off for him.

ate not great and barely moved thru the polar vortex and only put on a pound or two which made me feel good but this all coming around week 7 in my couch 2 5k plan has been brutal. Realized how much of my bad eating habits (when not drinking) are just related to being bored as shit and depressed. Felt really good to get 3 mile run in today even if it was slow as shit and a 8 mile walk after. Hopefully can get back on track to be under 2 hundo by the end of April.

I've got to drop this quarantine weight + more so since the beginning of February I've been doing the 5-2 diet and it's going well . Down 8 pounds and hopefully that the weight loss will pick up even more now that it's staring to warm up so I can get outside for exercise.

My ultimate goal (which is sort of a stretch goal) would be to lose 88 lbs. Just about 10% of the way there! I have been using a food scale - something I learned from WW. So far it has been relatively easy. However, we have been cooking all of our meals and haven't had much alcohol. Regardless, I am digging the program and feel like it should be sustainable. The challenge will be to add activity. Right now working from home, I average about 6,000 steps on work days. Glad the weather seems to be improving so I can go out and walk and eventually get back to running.

Glad the weather seems to be improving so I can go out and walk and eventually get back to running. If you're stuck inside a lot, try some bodyweight exercises. I literally started by just making one of my weekly goals with my coach to do 10 pushups three times a week. That's it. Once I was able to that consistently, then I started doing them every day. Then I added a set each of other exercises. Then I started adding more sets. Then I added more reps. It's super easy if you do it really slowly. I don't do more than 30 minutes absolute max of resistance training every day either bodyweight or with dumbbells. It's made a huge difference in my physique and BMR, though. I burn so many calories every day now and I'm only 5' 2".

When the weather's so nice you go for a run instead of a walk but afterwards it's still nice out so decide to go for a walk after >>>>>

Today is the one year anniversary of when my doctor told me I could stop taking all medication for my diabetes. My blood sugar has remained totally normal over the course of the year, which means that I've reached complete remission.
My classes and I celebrated today by taking a few minutes to eat some sort of sugary snack with everyone's cams turned on.

Since getting vaccinated I've started going back to the gym, my apartment actually has an incredibly nice one so I've been using that. Took a minute to really get into the routine but I am now, and now I'm on morning workouts which has been nice because I start work awake and alert, I've never been a morning person. Also I made friends with a neighbor whose a personal trainer and now I watch her dog during the day when I work from home in exchange for free personal training and that's helped a lot too
Anyways down 10 pounds and I'd say I only really started cracking down hard this last week where I'm really tracking everything I eat and staying strict on a routine. I had gained about 20 from quarantine time so losing all that is the first priority

I just had a televisit with the endocrinologist I've been seeing for the past decade or so for my diabetes management, and he told me I don't need to see him anymore. He said I'm doing so well managing this on my own without medication that my GP can just handle things from now on.
I think I'm going to have a slice of cake this weekend.

I woke up super early yesterday and drove out to Barr Lake State Park for a trail run. First time out there, and it was absolutely beautiful. One of those spots that feels like you're transported to another region of the country.

Officially running the Big Sur International Marathon in April of next year. Already have a spot booked in Monterey. It's a point to point race on the Pacific Coast Highway - pretty brutal elevation gains and losses, but I am so damn excited.

Last "long" run was Sunday, and I've officially started tapering in advance of my race later this month. Still have a 12 mile run this weekend but that's not really much with the miles I've been putting in. I'll be at over 450 running miles since the beginning of the year, so I've got some confidence going in despite some recent blister issues.

I've been derelict in offering my assistance to anyone who might be running the Chicago Marathon this weekend. Having VIP passes slip into my hands has become more problematic, so I can't guarantee any of that anymore, but if you or someone close to you is running on Sunday and is interested in making the day go a little bit easier, I can get you into a forward corral so there's no hanging around and you'll be more able to find empty space to run rather than having to fight through the hordes. The downside is that you have to be smart enough not to let the forward start position go to your head and make sure you run within your own plan.
If you're interested, or have someone that might be interested, send me a DM and I'll tell you how to find me at the expo tomorrow through Saturday and I'll get you sorted.

I started using a new app to track calories: MacroFactor.
I've suspected for a while that MyFitnessPal was overestimating the number of calories it was giving me for a budget, and I hear from a lot of other people who feel kinda the same way. Last week, I was looking and considering some other solutions and came across MacroFactor. I had seen a lot of positive feedback about the app, so I decided to try it. It's pretty great. Instead of syncing activity with a fitness tracker, it uses your daily nutrition info and weight to figure out your total daily energy expenditure and make suggestions/corrections from there. I love it. Obviously, in order for it to work right, you have to accurately log all the foods you eat and weigh in every day, but I love that it's gotten rid of the idea of "earning calories" through exercise. Basically, it just lets you live your life and then at every weekly check in, it will provide you with a budget based on how you metabolized your foods the previous week and what your goals are. I also love that since the app works by using weight and nutrition data, if my metabolism slows down for any reason, it will basically know that and adjust the numbers it gives me accordingly. The food database is really good, too, and it has a barcode scanner. The app is designed really well, too: it's very objective in that it just provides you with data without any judgement and it's even easier to log foods in it than it is with MyFitnessPal. It actually makes me want to make sure I log every single thing I eat--even if I go over budget--because otherwise the algorithm will not provide me with correct data.
The bad thing? There is no free version of the app, other than the seven-day trial.

I entered myself into the lottery for the NYC Marathon this morning. Only about 10% of folks who don't have guaranteed entry are selected, so hoping for some kind of miracle here.

I think I'm going to sign up for the Philadelphia Marathon later this week. The date works well with Thanksgiving break for the kids so the whole family can come out and see the race, and plus I've never been to Philadelphia before so I'm kind of hyped.

I have a half marathon in the mountains on Sunday morning. Gonna be a slog since I've either been sick or injured for most of the past 5 months, but I'm just going to try to enjoy myself. There's a bus that takes us up into the the mountains along the Poudre River and then we run into Old Town Fort Collins for the race - should be pretty damn beautiful.
And I officially signed up for Philly. I'll be focusing all of my efforts on that one so hopefully there will be better health luck for the rest of the year.
