I went to a theater that was showing Enemy back in whatever year that came out and it was literally on a burned DVD of an illegal download

9. Blood Harvest - I picked up the blu ray of this at a booth at Texas Frightmare and it stars Tiny Tim as a clown. The gore isn't great, the movies doesn't really go anywhere, but there is lots of nudity and I felt dirty watching this. 10. Body Bags - Anthology horror is usually pretty mixed for me and this is no different. The 1st and 3rd shorts are meh but the middle one is great. 11. The Exorcist - A perfect movie. 12. Tremors - This was a favorite growing up and it still holds up. Super fast paced and Kevin Bacon rules. 13. Jennifer's Body - I had seen lots of articles popping up saying it was a misunderstood movie (10th anniversary this year) It was so bad and it feels like it is a lot older than 10 years. The pop culture references, the "teen dialogue" and the gore are all bad.

17. Street Trash (1987; Jim Muro)
This was almost fun as a black comedy and reminded me a lot of Repo Man at times. I'm not gonna lie...I was a little let down because I thought there'd be a bit more to the poisonous alcohol stuff. Was really excited to see this one, but doubt I'll revisit it.

Damnit. I totally had a joke for your error. Something like, did he lose his license? Or is it one of those Transformers/Transmorphers situations?

This would have been so much better had they pushed for the R rating. Still pretty fun for the most part.

And having not seen the first one, I was appreciative of a literal recap in the first 15 minutes.

19. The Fog (1980; John Carpenter)
Eehhhh....I didn't love this? The middle dragged a ton, but it was an Alamo Drafthouse "Terror Tuesday" screening (which means free ticket and free popcorn for film society members) so you kind of can't go wrong. Service was also pretty on point and I can almost vouch for their chips and queso. The gin was certainly fine. They've been knocking it out of the park lately (Wicker Man, Poltergeist, Fright Night, Creepshow) and I'm looking forward to both Phantasm and Texas Chainsaw over the next two weeks. Back at the Alamo for ANOES tonight.

I love the Fog. The remake is not just one of the worst horror films or remakes, it's one of the worst films ever made. An abomination.
70s/80s Carpenter imo is unfuckwithable.

11. Let Me In (2010, Matt Reeves)
Decided to revisit as its been a few years. We all know Let the Right One In is superior, and a classic, but Reeves serves up one of the more respectable American remakes...even if it hasn't aged super well.
Chloe Grace Moretz and Richard Jenkins are the main attractions here - both deliver predictably great performances, but Codi Smit-McFee has been too vanilla for me since The Road, and brings little to the table. CGI is dated but it's still decent. Reeves has a solid track record so far too, with 2 great Ape movies to boot.
I enjoyed this when it came out, and still did, but all it did was make me want to watch the original again, sooooooo.....
12. Let the Right One In (2008, Tomas Alfredson)
To date, the best modern vampire (of the city) story of the last, I dunno 20 years at least. Its aged unsurprisingly well, even the minimal CGI is still effective. I find it fascinating that both child actors are no longer performing, only having done a few more projects. They didn't need to, their chemistry is too perfect here. Unlike its American counterpart, the evolution of their relationship feels organic. Fantastic still.

20. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984; Wes Craven)
my all-time favorite horror movie. ingrained in me from such a young age, courtesy of svengoolie himself, there are still moments of this movie that cause me to tense up. after finally hearing it in theater-surround last night, i think i realized the score is half of what makes this movie feel super dreadful to me. it was a "movie party" but it was pretty tame (thankfully). there was actually someone doing rocky-horror-like responses to some of the dialogue in one particular scene but it ended up being so funny i had no beef. we got foam freddy gloves as party props! will see this every time it comes around.

Behind after traveling for a week but I stocked up enough in advance that I think I can still catch up. Looking forward to watching some schlock from the Drive. I missed the reupload of The Host with subtitles - any chance you could put it back in at some point this month chvrchbarrel?

You actually didn't miss anything - I never got around to finding a hard-coded version.
This evening when I get home, I'll upload the entire folder The Host is in - I think that includes the subtitle file. You should be able to download it as a whole, and the video file will pull the sub file for you.

15. Dr. Giggles "How did the kid get out of the house??" is such an arbitrary question to frame an urban legend around but the payoff is so good!
