I do a clean out of the fridge and chest freezers occasionally, I find things can get lost in both. The chest freezer is used more for "long term" storage whereas the fridge freezer is more things we use more frequently (ginger, bagels, egg bites, ice cream lol)
*edit* oh god the most boring TOTP

We have a whiteboard on top of the chest freezer and a rigorous system re: keeping track of what’s in there

In early October we ordered new dining chairs and a bench from West elm. We'd been putting it off for a while but we decided to host Thanksgiving so pulled the trigger. The bench and its cushion came within two weeks or so. They said the chairs would be delivered Nov 2 at the latest, but weren't. I kept harassing them and...they got here the day after Thanksgiving. Logistics company’s fault.

I need a new checked bag, what is decent? I don't want to spend a ton of money for something that's just going to get kicked around baggage claim. Was thinking maybe just one of the Amazon essentials ones.

I caved and bought an Away. It's been great and you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it. It's taken a beating and still looks good, too.
You can probably get away with getting the Amazon version.

I also have the large Away as my checked bag and love it. Their customer service is great and you can try it for 100 days no questions asked. We weren't sure what size we would need long term so we bought the large and medium before we went to Japan for our honeymoon, travelled for three weeks on trains/planes/getting it shipped around the country, brought the medium back pretty beat up and they had no issues with giving us a full refund. They have a physical location downtown so returns and maintenance are easy.

Why did you need the refund - it didn't hold up?

Why did you need the refund - it didn't hold up? No - the length of the trip warranted us both checking a bag, but we knew that we probably wouldn't be in that situation for a long time if ever. We got both sizes and decided after the trip which one would work better for us long-term. We bought them both knowing that we would return one after the trip. Although the one we returned was bright pink and it definitely showed scuffs (not something we really care about). The one we kept is dark green and it hasn't shown any wear at all. Get a dark color if you get one. I like that color and also the dark merlot/brick which I have their large carry-on in.

I bought a Travelpro and Mrs. Doso bought an Away. We’re both very happy with them. Being soft sided, the Travelpro shows no wear after a year. The Away does, but it’s nothing terrible. Even if you don’t use it very often, I think it might be worth spending the $ on a nicer bag that will last as opposed to something like Amazon Essentials that’s more likely to fall apart sooner rather than later.

I did the same with a Monos carryon a while back (in a cool terrazzo print!) before realizing a) I am just never gonna be a carryon girlie and b) this thing was going to look awful after one trip and luggage maintenance is not something I ever want to do. I will probably just get the cheap Amazon one? My current bag is a polycarbonate Samsonite (I think?) and it literally came off the carousel with a hole punched in it last time I traveled.

We got Travelpro carry-ons before a big trip a few years ago and have really liked them.

Justified my Away bag purchase after Costco consistently had pretty terrible selection and I hadn't purchased new luggage in a decade. For the most part it works great but within 18 months its already has a tear and the case shows more wear than a $250 suitcase should. Haven't brought it in for maintenance yet but was a bit annoying considering I don't travel THAT much and my old shitty luggage kept rocking til the wheels fell off literally

I did end up getting a medium size Away. I have more than the usual trips in the next six weeks so it will be a good trial period.

Who's got a home office chair they like? Wirecutter recs were all over a grand and the budget one was still $500. Wired had recs in the $200 range. Seems like you can spend as little or as much as you want. I don't object to splurging a little on something I'll be on all day but don't want to buy a top of the line chair for the sake of it.

I'm kind of a Steelcase mark so take this with a grain of salt.
I have the Gesture with headrest in my home office in Chicago. Got it during covid and I love it so much. I can and do spend all day in the chair, even when I'm not working I sit in it sometimes for TV/gaming/whatever. It's so customizable that it's easy to just switch things around a little if I'm getting uncomfortable in a certain position which doesn't happen much. It was expensive but it was 100% worth the investment for me, especially for my height.
In LA I have the Amia which gets me through the work day comfortably but isn't something I'm really trying to spend time in casually. I got a pretty good deal off of it from a guy who mysteriously had a warehouse full of them out here but I'm not sure it's something I'd have paid full price for looking at what they're charging now.
I'm going to echo goodson and say that if you want to spend less do it by buying a nice refurbed or used chair rather than buying something that costs $200 new. You're going to have a bad time going down that road.

I bought a HON Ignition 2.0 when it was on sale for $350 at Amazon about a week or two after Thanksgiving in 2022. I’ve been very happy with it and it was well worth the $ because my old chair was a cheap POS.

I used to have a Herman Miller Aeron when I worked in an office and I hated that thing. Uncomfortable and ugly as sin. In my home office I have a cheap one of these off Wayfair and I love it. I can sit criss cross applesauce and I'm sitting on soft fabric not sticky plastic mesh.

Why do you hate it?
It is the most comfortable chair I've had in 25+ years of office work. I suspect the answer has to do with having hips and a big ole booty but that's just a guess.
