At this point I'd be extremely disappointed if the Sox aren't a wild card/actual playoff team. So refreshing to have real expectations for this team again.

considering they have a deal with at&t, i'd imagine it'll get solved with comcast before the season. otherwise people can just switch over. its not like LA where there is no good alternative (as far as i understand it, at least).

Friendly reminder that if you use MLB TV and haven't cancelled your auto-renew, do that now. It'll re-up in about a month. You can usually get better prices outside of the auto-renew window.

I got a Chicago Whales hat today.
That's all. I'm pretty darn happy with it.

I can't say I really understand that Cardinals-Rays trade from the Rays side. The Rays (under Friedman and Bloom) were always good at evaluating their own players so there's likely some rationale here, but I'm not seeing it.

They fleeced the Cards on the Pham trade, I just always assume the Rays know something other teams don't. Jose Martinez will probably hit 30 homers and play great defense next year, and then they'll flip him too.

That's what I'm thinking. Or Arozarena just becomes one of those pre-arb perennial 5 WAR guys that Tampa rolls off the assembly line.

They got the best farm system so reading it a lot of takes have just been "well yeah they gave up the 2nd best LHP prospect but whatever". Kinda remarkable. Wish they had more success to show for it/didn't play in the AL East

So I totally buy that they'll come out ahead on this deal even if all current evidence suggests it's a dud.

Cubs signed Bryant to a 1 year, 18.6 million dollar deal. If they fall out of contention (which is a very real possibility) I could see them shipping him at the deadline.
Almora was also signed to make cool catches in the outfield this season too, at 1.575 million

I think there's a real possibility they trade him before the season even starts.

I know the debate has happened elsewhere, but I don't understand not wanting Kris Bryant.

I know the debate has happened elsewhere, but I don't understand not wanting Kris Bryant. They've done nothing but treat him like crap since they manipulated his service time. I understand that happens to other players too, but that relationship never seemed to recover. I think they'd rather pay Javy than him too when the time comes

I know the debate has happened elsewhere, but I don't understand not wanting Kris Bryant. I don't think it's about not wanting him, it's more that they have no farm system to speak of and don't want to commit to a full rebuild. Trading him with two years of control probably brings back a good haul and they still have enough stars to contend. They mismanaged their window by not pursuing more extensions (or maybe they did pursue them but no players were willing to sign).

Also it's bonkers that only two teams have not spent a dime on free agents this offseason: the Cubs and Rockies.

Spent 100+ years waiting for his type of talent and are more than happy to trade him while he's a top 5 player in the game. It's pretty depressing as a fan.

That actually was way more severe than I would have thought. It's not like they can vacate the title. Losing two straight years of first 2 picks is pretty crippling.
