it was news to me when I moved down here over 10 years ago. Friend who was clowning on me has lived here for years too...

yeah but answer my question! that's actually why I brought it up. a friend in the neighborhood tried to clown on me when I told him there's a new brewery at Chicago and Grand. I grew up off Grand close to Belmont so I grew up thinking it was weird that it eventually just straightened out and became a normal East-West street

Some railroad line forces that curve right? i think the diagonal part of grand was an old trail like several of the other diagonals.

venom is correct.
"Grand Avenue had previously been called Whiskey Point Road, presumably because there was a tavern in what is now the Belmont Cragin neighborhood."

As someone living off Whiskey Point Road, I kind of forgot that Grand becomes east-west after a while.

want to go halfsies on opening a bar called whiskey point on grand between my house and yours?
edit: a quick view of Google maps shows a) a neighborhood called whiskey point at grand and armitage and b) a "night club" called whiskey point at that intersection, though the street view shows a Dunkin/Baskin robbins.

Also saw a Whiskey Point at Ashland and 47th.
