in a HUGE group work chat spanning at least three countries, a woman said she went to an amazing show last night and asked if everyone wanted to see pics. many enthusiastically said yes. the show: foreigner and loverboy. Just read this to my dude as he's driving and he requested that I add "Take Me to the Top" by Loverboy to our listening queue. |

My wife and I saw the Foreigner/Loverboy KC stop. It was my wife's choice. Loverboy was decent, and they did have all five original members. Mike Reno was in full "Axl Rose is getting older' mode and looked ridiculous with his red bandana and his 'swagger.' (Note; not trying to fat shame anyone, please don't take offense). But they sounded better than ok. Foreigner should be totally ashamed of themselves. They sounded great, but they just weren't the real thing. The worst part was that tickets weren't cheap and the place was packed.

I guess they told Lou he could come back if he wanted to step in occasionally on this tour like he did a handful of years ago but it seems like he is not doing that lol |

The worst part was that tickets weren't cheap and the place was packed. it's pretty obvious that the casual music fan just doesn't care who's in the group and doesn't really follow who's in and who's out of a band. whether that's good or bad, not for me to decide since these bands are packing arenas and amphitheaters and musicians are making money. at least when originals get replaced, they usually get replaced with hired guns who know the music note-for-note and that's what those fans want, is to hear the music they grew up with. i bet there's a website somewhere that has a list of classic rock bands and how many originals they have in them. i bet most have 1 or 2 at most. |

i somewhat briefly worked for survivor in like 2015-2016 and there was this enormous push to try to get them on a co-bill with loverboy. i cannot tell you the amount of one-sheets i had to design touting survivor's spotify numbers. they wanted to do a loverboy tour so bad; i directly asked the agent what was so fucking special about loverboy because i was losing my mind and he shrugged and said "they sell tickets"

early / mid-80s they were packing arenas and their fans then are older fans now that have all the money!
like when i saw loverboy open for journey in 81 i couldn't believe it. felt like at the time it should've been a co-headline show with how big loverboy was on their 2nd album.

Per wikipedia, the only original member of Survivor left is the lead guitarist.
We had 'The Search is Over' played at our wedding during dinner. I don't think my wife cares for that song, but I really like it.

ooh and tell us some survivor stories! i don't have too many. it was a weird time; i was excited that my agent-team had landed their business but it was basically 12 straight months of trying not to ask "who honestly cares about this" every day. this new kid named cameron had just started singing for them and a lot of our work was pitching them as a fresher '80s-revival option than the same 8 bands you see on co-bills every other summer, with a huge focus on the limited material they had shot with the new singer. you sort of just assume a washed up '80s act like survivor is going to do most of the work for you, being content with steady state fairs & food fests until they get picked up on a summer co-bill. frankie sullivan and his wife were not necessarily that type. jimi jamison passing likely had something to do with how much frankie feels like he's got to prove. frankie thinks survivor right now is as important as the survivor of the '80s, or at least he's selling that HARD - we had at least monthly calls with him and his wife, who were very involved in the booking process*. the money they wanted to play was just absurd; easily double what they were worth in the US. i remember international promoters being more excited about them for whatever reason, but international guarantees end up skyrocketing and before you know it you're trying to convince someone survivor is worth 40k USD to play on some resort stage. met frankie a few times and the way he dresses and acts on stage is the way he is in real life. he looks like he weights 80 pounds soaking wet, and i remember thinking "how could you wear so many heavy rings on such a frail hand" - nice guy but still walking around like he's extremely hot shit. very "i wrote eye of the tiger 40 years ago and i still rule" energy. he reminded me of christopher lloyd in who framed roger rabbit. *the only artist i encountered that was more active in their own booking, and someone i hilariously became close with over those few years, is steve from the cherry poppin' daddies |
