NYT reports we are "officially locked down" for the "first time" in "decades"
Cubs signed Marcus Stroman before this nonsense so we're officially going to the "World Series"

Miñoso, Kaat, O’Neil, Hodges, and Oliva are all in!
And a big Fuck You to anyone who didn’t vote for Dick Allen, who fell one vote shy again.

Minnie Minoso, occasional shopper espied by nanafish at the Jewel-Osco at Broadway and Addison when he lived at Irving Park Road and Lake Shore Drive, and also espied at the small grocery on Sheridan south of Irving Park Road, finally made the HOF fixed that for you.

I met Minnie once when I was really young, and beyond the stats, he was the sweetest person and the best ambassador for the game. Shameful he wasn’t put in the Hall when he was alive, but I’m so happy for his family that they get to finally celebrate this.

And I’ll rep this one more time, but The Soul of Baseball is the best baseball book I’ve ever read and I highly recommend it. Buck seemed like a great dude. Incredible storyteller.

Great news. Copy/pasting my only Minnie story from another thread. One of my favorite baseball memories:
When I was coaching up at Mather, one of our pitchers was the grandson of one of Minnie Miñoso's friends. Minnie stopped by one game as a favor just to watch the kid pitch, give him a few pointers, and be on his way.
He ended up staying for the entire game and talked to our team afterwards for like 30 minutes. Told amazing stories about when he first came to the US and and about being the first black player on the Sox. Mixed in some hitting instruction and answered a bunch of questions.
Dude just absolutely loved baseball. He died less than a year later. He should have been in the HOF a long time ago

Buck Showalter is only 65 which seems insane to type out but is factually accurate

i hope there's a season for many reasons, not least of which is that this year's hawaiian sox shirt is another winner.

I mean, there'll be a season, but I'm not super confident it will start before Memorial Day.
I'm still planning on going to Arizona next month with our without baseball. Maybe we'll just rent some ATVs and tear up the baseball fields to vent.

I don't think the season will start on time, but I wouldn't count out 162 games quite yet. I think they are prepared to build in those 7 inning double headers again like they did in 2020.

Any of you people ever been to the BBHOF in Cooperstown? A couple of my friends and I are shooting to get out there mid-late June potentially- never been and any advice would be helpful

I've been, just be prepared for the fact that its in the middle of nowhere. Even if you're really taking your time taking everything in, it will take way less than a day to get through the museum itself. If possible, try to plan your trip around another event that might be happening there that day/weekend.

We went through Schenectady once and thought about going 20 years ago but didn't. Really wish we would have stopped.

Union just rejected the league's latest offer and reps are leaving Florida. We're probably not getting games until May or June at this point.
