Absolutely spitballin' here with like 2 minutes of forethought. Manifesting the AL outcome I want most.
Jays Astros White Sox Rays Red Sox Tigers (idk let's throw a real wildcard in the mix)
Braves Brewers Dodgers Mets Dads Phillies
WC: CHW def. Tigers WC: BOS def. Rays ALDS: Jays def. Red Sox ALDS: White Sox def. Astros ALCS: White Sox def. Jays
WC: Braves def. Phillies WC: Dads def. Mets NLDS: Dodgers def. Dads (but this series will rock) NLDS: Braves def. Brewers NLCS: Braves def. Dodgers
WS: Braves def. White Sox and go back-to-back

Also, I will throw a temper tantrum if the Guardians don't re-sign Jose Ramirez this week. C'mon you have like a 50mm payroll and he's the biggest fan favorite in YEARS and he actually wants to stay with the team! Get it done!!!!!!!

On the other hand if you're Jose Ramirez why would you resign with a team that won't spend money to fill out the rest of the roster? They've got him and one of the best pitchers in baseball and refuse to build around them - it's wild.
Plus he's been floated in trade scenarios every two weeks for the past 3 seasons.

My gut feeling is that there's like a 95% chance Jose Ramirez is traded and not extended

AL East is so absurd this year. Plausible they have like four of the top five records in the AL. And with the balanced schedule they won't just be beating each other up all year. I could realistically see them producing all three AL wild cards. balanced schedule begins next year, right? i've seen my favorite team at about half of the ballparks and hoping that schedule will make it much easier to complete the full set in a few years.

You're right, I thought it was this year for some reason. In that case, I don't think all three wild cards will come from the east.

Idk but as a lifelong fan who just lost one of my other lifelong teams in the last month... I really really really need this to happen. Jose has been the consensus fan favorite here for half a decade now, and he seems to have genuine love for the city and team. Maybe that counts for something? I would certainly be on my way out of town if I were him, constantly the subject of trade rumors and on a team that seems content with 76-86 wins until the next prospect wave hits the majors in 2023/24. For my own sanity, I hope they do right by him and keep him as a pillar to build the next era around, he's young enough and most of our scary prospects are already in AA-AAA. But I've lived through this cycle of disappointment since I was 5 and they traded Robby Alomar. So it goes.

This team is too ingrained in me to give it up now, I don't think I would actually do that. In all likelihood, if this Jose extension goes awry, I'll prolly just join the legion of alienated Cleveland fans who largely tune them out. Which is sad, because baseball used to be (still is?) my #1 sport. As always, Fuck the Dolans.

Counter point: The Rays traded Austin Meadows, so he's going to be Tim Tebow this season.

How has MLB not figured out how to schedule most opening days in warm weather cities and domes by now? they're never going to do this because it'd open the door to say that the twins or rockies shouldn't play a home game until may, or even that no AL central team should play an early season home game. but they can definitely do a better job of limiting early season home games for those teams. ten of the rockies' first twelve games this season are at home. and the twins start the season with six at home vs. a dome team and a warm weather team. that shouldn't happen.

I understand it can't be all games, but they need to limit their potential for makeups. I know this season is wonky because of the delayed start but it feels like there is absolutely no effort to avoid early inclement weather.

I wonder how this impacts a potential Tim Anderson extension. One year younger than Ramirez and under team control for one more year.
There's no urgency but I could see both sides wanting to lock in something so he ends his career here.

Also, fun thing here- as some of you know, my sister teaches ESL courses in Japan. She normally enlists my help to teach these grade school kids about American sports (what is the Super Bowl, is Serena Williams really that good, etc.) According to her the kids are very excited to follow along with the Cubs and Seiya Suzuki specifically this season. Poor bastards.
