Sox bullpen was terrible today. I know it's only one game but losing on opening day in that fashion is the absolute worst.

What an absurd way to lose that game. Hopefully Cease can be a workhorse tomorrow since Sunday will probably be another bullpen day with Kopech.

I was just thinking how I've never been to a home opener. This past weekend was my first time even going on opening weekend, and it was fun as hell. Rockies tickets are already available for below $10 so I'll be going to a ton of games this year.

somehow there are two diamond box tix for only $40 which is insane. all the others are like double. if alady were in town i'd be lobbying her to accompany me so we could talk about amy schumer the whole time.

I got to see the Jays shut-out the Yankees in Yankee Stadium last night and it was glorious. Bleacher tix were like $8 an hour before the game. I scored a $30 ticket in the front of the 200s. It was awesome.

Big ole LOL at the dodgers pulling Kershaw 7 innings into a perfecto and immediately having the reliever losing it. Shit like this is what happens when math nerds don’t get enough sunlight

Nah it happens when there's a shortened spring training and most starting pitchers weren't ready to start the season.

I feel like a perfecto is kind of an exception maybe?

I mean he was injured and couldn't pitch in the playoffs last season and they kind of need him to be healthy, so I honestly don't think so. At least not this early in the season. Barely any pitchers are throwing more than 70 or so pitchers. He was at 80 through 7, so he easily would have gone over 100. I could see that ending badly with so little ramp up time in spring training.

In a normal season absolutely but he's injury prone and without the normal prep, so I doubt any team would have treated the situation differently.

I think it's weirdly an acceptable scenario for him to get injured in the first inning or something of another start because it would just seem like a foregone conclusion. If he gets injured in a game you're easily going to win anyway and your season craters because of it, I don't know, that just feels different.

I would have loved to have seen it - I'm just saying I get it. They're trying to win with a pitching staff that is not as strong as it has been in past years. I'm sure they probably kept him in longer than they otherwise had planned since he was so dominant, but at a certain point they didn't want to push it too much.

Initially I didn’t think much of the decision, but the more I think about it the more frustrated I am for Kershaw.

it's not like this hasn't happened before, and well before front offices made pitching recommendations.
mark langston was pulled after 7 no-hit innings during his first start of the 1990 season because his arm wasn't stretched out enough following a short spring training as a result of a lockout. there are several instances of pitchers being pulled early in the season during games that a month later they totally would've gone further in.
