I hate rush.  I hate every album they put out.  I especially hate geddy lee's voice.

I did see them at the rosemont horizon for the hold your fire tour, with tommy shaw opening, because a guy I worked with back then really liked them, and I figured why the hell not go.

also, in response to tweet, I like can't buy a thrill, countdown to ectasy, and katy lied, and think the rest of the steely dan catalogue stinks.

This just absolutely blew my mind. Can't believe I hadn't heard it before. It sounds like the forerunner of so much music from the 2000-2010s and also the culmination of a decade's worth of introspective yet bombastic pop music? Honestly a perfect album.

Anyways, I have an actual question for the group at large (and I realize I'm God in this thing but whatever)- London Calling: great album, but not an 80s album? USA release in January 1980, British release on my Mom's birthday when she was in high school or some shit. Rolling Stone called it the best album of the 80s when they did their original list, but Rolling Stone also sucks.

The UK date is just 17 days before 1980 - almost close enough to be a rounding error. And one could argue we’re a U.S.-based group, so we go by U.S. release dates. But I think the best way to think about it is to ask if it sounds more like ‘70s music or ‘80s music. I think it belongs in the ‘80s.

I was gonna ask about Second Edition/Metal Box too by PiL. P4K included it in both of their 80s lists despite it coming out in November 79 (Rereleased in the US in Feb 80).

I've always felt that London Calling was a 70s album, and it would be my clear #1 if we added it to the 80s list. I'm personally against including it here, but that's mainly a personal aesthetic choice, as I group it as the culmination of The Clash's rise in the late 70s. But it came out so close to the end of the year that - if we were Boarding in 1980 - it would've been eligible for the 1980 Year-End roundup. So I'm cool either way.

Billy Joel kinda bookended the decade with some sick records. Glass Houses and Storm Front are both loaded with some of my favorite tracks of his. Will def be on my list

Living thru the 70s and the 80s, and following music contemporaneously at the time, I've always felt that it wasn't a 70s album.
